Fn key??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fn_key

if you can give your laptop specifics I can look for more detailed information for you.
brand , make , windows XP or vista, Mac or Linux etc??
how old is it?

if you have a spare keyboard {or a friend does} you can plug it in to use until you get it figured out.

or can you get to your control panel settings?
there should be something for keyboard settings

does the touch pad still work OK?

I've had my laptop for nearly a year now, and that's the first time I had heard of that key. I saw it there but wasn't game to press it, but I just looked it up and read what it's for. I think I may need to look at some more keys & bits so I get proper use out of them all. I'm a slow learner when it comes to computers as I'm always afraid of mucking things up!

I found and used my webcam for the first time a few days ago too, so I know that works.

does it happen to be still under warranty? if so contact acer.

I found the support pages for that laptop on the UK area of the Acer site-
http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.d...CRC=2980211862

you can download the manual, update drivers and contact Acer there.

most laptops have places to plug in a regular keyboard, if you can borrow one from somebody just to see if it works that way or not, something to try anyway.

I finally fixed my laptop! Yay! lol I ended up trying the 'restore' again, but went back further than I tried the first time, and finally it fixed the problems! But it looks like my cellphone tools disc isn't compatible with this vista, but they are both fairly new, so why should there be problems???
Oh, I don't know...I'm just so glad I can type normally again! lol
