Hi there, so sorry to hear how scared and sick you feel. I can tell you that doctors missed some key symptoms more than once. I was insisting something was very wrong. Ignored completely, invalidated. I can relate.

Ended stalemate by calling the ER of major teaching hospital and talking to on- call doctor. Told him I was traveling from hour away, by friend with car, because local small town docs were ignoring me. Gave minimal symptoms report and sounded absolutely certain I needed SKILLED medical evaluation..

Made it up there, saw doctors after moderate wait. They claimed nothing to diagnose. Solution was to have a serious crying fit telling them "I felt like I was dying". They finally took me seriously and admitted me overnight. Next morning they finally read blood tests correctly, discovering due to recent kidney troubles( with hospitalization), was severely anemic.

Received poor treatment during two blood transfusions from nurses. Followed by visit from psych student for evaluation. Sent home with dose of antidepressant. At least I could walk from the bed to the elevator and to car. Jeez that was a traumatic experience.

Previous tx in hospital had damaged kidneys and no proper tx from kidney specialist so ignored severe weakness/anemia.

What you can do is similar, break down in all seriousness until they are forced to deal with you. Or contact doctor on call at different ER to report in brief, calm, yet serious tone. In case they tend to ignore you in person for some reason, use phone option.

Assumptions abound if you are young and look too healthy or other issues, health care professional's and biased tendencies can be around appearance, race, status, economics, even strong or weak emotional presentation etc...). Keep trying until someone helps you. Or tells you it is nothing, in your head or whatever, and backs it up with more than one confirmation. Get stubborn in short, stand by your truth at all costs.

You might learn something about yourself in this process. And no doubt learn much about how the medical system works,(or fails to work). Good luck, I hope you get some kind of help for yourself in some form. One way or another. One shouldn't have to write here to get this kind of help! Best Wishes TT

hi there, I am guessing my suggestions did not help you much. May I ask how old you are Carmel? I assumed, foolishly, that you had the resources to get care as an adult. I am sorry to assume.

I hear that things are still really awful for you and that on top of feeling badly, you do not feel seen and heard. I do relate to that feeling and I am really sorry if I added to it unwittingly.

I used to say what I expected others to wanted to hear, while a part of me was secretly screaming inside begging for help. I simply did not know how to tell them openly what I was feeling. I wonder if you relate to my experience?

I would like to offer another more appropriate possible solution. If you are in school, and there is a school nurse or counselor, could you go and ask to just talk to them?

They are usually pretty cool folks or would not be in this profession. Perhaps someone who doesn't know anything about you would be easier to tell your story to. They can often listen without judging better than those who "know" us.

Perhaps getting seen by a compassionate witness who is not related or an authority figure, but more like a friend, would be helpful right now. Maybe they could see how scared you feel today. How overwhelmed with painful, horrible thoughts and feelings. Is this right or am I reading into your last post? Please write back and let me know if you wish for more support Ok?

I don't think you are dying, although it can certainly feel like it at times in everyone's life. Try to think of someone who you can talk to openly. Fear is like an animal which grows when it 'hides in it's cave'. The only one who can face your fear is you, but you do not have to do it alone, in fact you cannot do it alone. No one can.

I also suggest that you try again to tell your mom what you are feeling, or if you cannot say it to her, write it in a letter and put it where she, or another adult person, can find it. Sometimes it can feel like there is someone inside of us forbidding us to express what we truly think and feel. Give that part permission to speak up and reassure her that you will not judge her even if she is misunderstood by others. There is some reason she has a need to be heard, you could be her strongest advocate. Right?!! hoping you feel better soon. Guaranteed that all things do change sooner or later. Best Wishes TT

PS. Ask for help at the top of the letter so she knows to take it to heart seriously and that you are seeing aid and comfort right now.

I am just gonna call 911 if I still feel bad cause I have written her a letter once before and she keeps saying that I am going to ER too much as it is.I am crying right now and I feel like nobody cares about me.I have a dr. appt on the 21st this month and I fear that my chest pains could be heart problems or something else serious.I am 23 years old and I am not in school right now.I start training for a 2 week seasonal job at this place called Sitel on the 17 and 18.I hope I feel better.

Default Dear Caramel Chanel

We care about you. It sounds like you might have the flu,and are having panic attacks. I sympathize with what you are going through. I'm going to say a prayerfor you.

Close down to the bottom of Neurotalk on the forum, there is a area called the Bipolar forum. It is very popular, and people help each other emotionally every day. Please come to the forum, and talk to us,or you can talk to us here. Whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I understand the desperation that you are talking about. When you are feeling like this, and they cannot find anything wrong with you,and your family doesn't understand. This can be a ordeal that is hard to describe.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. BF

Thank you for the kind words.I am not feeling so good right now but I am just gonna suck it up until I go to the dr. on the 21st.I am 23 years old and I am too young to be coping with the symptoms of a stroke. It will crush my heart if the doctor tells me I have heart problems.
