Default My Webcam works

Holy Cow.

I have no idea how I did it. I had uploaded something to youtube, and while the picture came out beautifully, there was no sound.

Then I saw the link that said "Record by Webcam" (or something to that effect), and I said "Oh, I can record directly to youtube".

So I did a little experiment. Again, picture came out fine, no sound. I use headphones that are plugged into my monitor, but they have two outlets (one for headphones and one for microphone.

So I unplugged the one that was going directly into the monitor, and took both ends, went over to the front of the tower where there are two inputs, One for headphones, and the other for microphone.

I plugged them in, did another test.

AND VOILA!!!! everything worked.

Then I said 'well, if I can upload to youtube, I should be able to go into the webcam software directly and make a video just for my viewing, right?

so I just did it.

AND IT CAME OUT.

I cannot believe it. I now have this neat little webcam that will let me do all the bells and whistles and editing, and creating these great things.

ONLY, ALL I KNOW HOW TO DO IS MAKE A VIDEO.

I have to LEARN ALL THE OTHER STUFF.

but hey, I'm only 62. I HAVE LOTS OF TIME.

lol

Melody

UPDATE UPDATE.

I spoke to soon. I just made my video of ME, doing the record from webcam thing. Look how it came out. What the heck did I do wrong?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDLboZUK0tI

Oh, and FYI, before I did it this way, I recorded myself using the software, when you click on the option, "capture from device". I recorded it, played it back, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE, sound was fine, picture was fine.

So how come, when I did the record from webcam thing, I get all this static.

AND I THOUGHT I NAILED IT.

Oh brother!!!
lol

I went to utube and watched your video. It looks ok to me. There was a lot of background noise and I assume when you made the recording you had the volume up to high.

I don’t have a Web Cam and I never uploaded anything to utube so I cannot say for sure.

I look at UTUBE a lot but as I said I never tried to upload anything.

You might have to explore the sound /speaker settings for the webcam & in the control panel sound settings.
If the Mic has a sound boost - that might be the trouble.

Or if the Mic is too close to the computer box or any other sounds - it might be picking those up.

The microphone is located in the headset, it's one of those swingdown microphones attached to my headset. And the headset has one of those high-lo-control thingees attached right in the middle of the wire that is connected to the tower.

I'll make another video (I'll lower the volume on the control thing), and we'll see what happens.

I feel like I'm on tv. lol

Okay, I just made another one.

Here's the link:

How come it stopped at 20 seconds? I was speaking longer than 40 seconds. You can put 10 minute videos on youtube. I've never done that, but why 20 seconds and why the static. Sure, lowering the volume on my headset did the trick, but I'll try and go into the volume controls in control panel.

Have NEVER done this before.

Be back later on.

Anyway, I made the video, and it cut me off in 18 seconds. The previous one was 20 seconds.

Any thoughts on why it's doing this?

I'll check back tomorrow for your words of wisdom. I'm going to go watch tv and if I see another computer tonight, I'm going to bash it.

I'm too old for this.

Try moving the mic over to the side of your mouth and about 1" away from it.
my old voice recognition software had a section on best mic placement.

some mic positioning pics - these were the best I could find.

I don't know why it would stop at a certain time...
