Default I am being attacked by either woodpeckers or flickers!

Nothing like waking up to various RAT A TAT TATS!!!!!!! around the house exterior in the last week? I am glad they are back, More glad that they are not Pileated W'P's here [haven't seen them for about 10 years?] But these guys are really doing a number on the house? I can't figger it out? There are trees around much more ideal for them than my house.
Anyone have ideas other than a super sprayer? We only had a 'downy' last year do almost a 3 inch hole in some siding, which we spackled in and made unattractive as a result? I love my wood siding, I also dislike the vynil alternatives.... Any one have any good ideas? Thanks in advance...when they get the 'gutters?' It's quite an amazing sound! - j

My sister had the same problem with her wood siding...

She but these little fake spiders in a couple of places and within days the woodpeckers moved to the trees and away from her house....

Here is a link to something similar to what she has...

.

I hope you find something to help move the woodpeckers back to the trees.

Lightbulb

They drum when setting up territories for nesting. It should stop once they get settled. The louder the noise the happier the male woodpecker gets. I don't think pileated would do this, as they are shy around people. But red bellied and flickers do drum.
When pileated work on trees it can sound like axes hitting them!

Our neighbor had them attack their tin fireplace cover at the top of their house one year. It was a ferocious din! They built a fire in the fireplace and it drove the bird off.

We get little downys in the fall practicing on our cedar shingles now and then. Sometimes the nuthatches hide sunflower seeds there too.

Default Thanks all!

Dh goes out and about the house looking...and hasn't found them 'doing it' yet? Tho last year, the wood siding did get a good dent in it that was filled in w/putty. They sound like pileateds, but I've not really seen one in about 10+ years [they are MAGNIFICENT creatures tho]. We'd had some big trees taken down that'd gotten too big/old to be safe....The smaller guys sure can make a racket tho? No matter their size, whereever they peck- It can reverberate throughout the house! And, of course, they are just above, or truly under the eaves where you just can't see them!
Not to mention that they tend to DO IT only at sunrise? Anyone know of any home remedies? I'd hate to call the exterminators in on this one, you know what I mean.......Thanks to all!

Try putting up a nest box and see if you can convince them to move in!
