I know that for me it causes severe joint pain and can't tolerate even the minimum dosage at 1 mg.

I do know that doctors overstate research outcomes. Teva has tried several times to lock down and FDA neuroprotective rating, and the latest results, at best show conflicting results (protective at 1 mg but not at 2 mg)

There is a recent thread here on Azilect and EGCG working in synergy but it has to be at low doses- I don't see a doctor guiding any of is endeavor any time soon, but it is an approach I am thinking of trying.

Not sure what else...there are some dietary hazards and some very big drug interaction hazards.

HTH,

Laura

Default web site

Mary Frances, this site is authored by a philosopher, David Pearce, who is deeply interested in drugs to enhance life. He sounds seriously weird to me, and though some of the info is his interpretation, i have not found glaring inaccuracies in the pharmacology aspects. Discussions concerning age extensions, etc. i ignore. He also discusses "ladostigil" which Dr. Youdim introduced at the WPC meeting in 2006 (i think) in wash DC which i have read nothing about since. .
http://www.rasagiline.com/

In addition, my husband has been taking it a very long time. He first started on 1200 mgm CoQ10 daily and added Azilect 1 mg/day within 6 months of diagnosis. We have no idea if it is good bad or indifferent. I do know it has many many drug interactions. if one needs surgery the drug must be stopped 2 weeks prior to the surgery. makes for nail biting experience when the procedure is an emergency--must trust the anesthetist knows all about MAO B inhibition and anesthetics. one cannot take antihistamines for example (ie cannot take the dextromethorphan several patients are using). and many other meds.

Default hello there Mary Frances!!

I would just add to this dialogue, that while Azilect might not work so well for others, It might be the "cats meow" for you.the only way you'll know is to trial it at a low dose.

How have you been?

Angry Unable to tolerate Azilect

Has anyone had this problem? Started Azilect as an adjunct to Sinemet about 5 weeks ago and have had increasing nausea and diarrhea since then. Nothing tried seemed to help and PD specialist is now weaning me off (and I am feeling somewhat better). I was almost totally unable to function on the drug. Upset about inability to tolerate a drug considered to be neuroprotective. Now what?

i tried samples for 3 weeks, 2 weeks at .5mg, 1 week at 1mg, felt worse and stopped it cold turkey. happy with my generic sinemet. i didn't discuss this affect with neuro so don't know if he would have said "hang in there, from my experience you will eventually benefit." he's pretty laid back and doesn't push agonists either. i believe though if he thought it might make a big difference he would have said so.

fwiw, at least from my interpretation, after reading the research results on the azilect website, seems .5mg dose was almost as effective as 1mg dose and much less side affects.
