Default What responds to Ldopa besides PD?

No, the answer is not "Big Pharma"! I'm serious. Iknow that some dystonia does. What else? MrsD! Are you there? (Odd how I feel like Capt. Picard shouting for "Q" )

Default Mirapex

I'm not aware of anything else that "responds" to l-dopa besides PD. I do believe that Mirapex is sometimes prescribed for restless legs...an "off label" use of this medication, i.e., a medication that is prescribed for a specific condition such as PD, but has been found to be useful for something other than had originally been intended such a restless legs. As I read my response to this question, I'm not too sure that I've made myself clear nor that I've given a satisfactory response to the original question. Maybe this will clarify it. Mirapex was specifically developed to treat PD; however, it has also been found to help with the "restless leg syndrome"(the "off" label use of Mirapex). Is that any better? Or, have I confused you more????

It is my understanding there are several neurological diseases that look like and act like PD but are not PD. Lewy Body Disease is one of them. They are grouped into one classification called Parkinsonism. They are all treated the same way until or if it can be determined what the disease is. The drug of choice is..... l-dopa. I would need to go back and do some research to come up with the names of these diseases now as the fog has set in and is not clearing yet today.

Lightbulb

L-dopa is used by the body for many roles. It is just not many are "disease" states.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-DOPA

I do know that tyrosine, is often also used to try to beef up dopamine production for ADHD and depression.

Also there is dopamine in the periphery doing various jobs mostly on the cardiovascular system.
