I'm sorry for your loss. Friends aren't easy to come by - and the loss of a best friend will leave a big void. Are you friendly with any of her family? Maybe they could make you feel closer to her. I'll be thinking of you. Barbo

Well, my ex boyfriend took his life 10 years ago, and my best friend did 7 months ago. I knew that she was going to do it, I had flown home to take care of her and put her into a hospital. She told me the week before that she was done and of course I begged her not to do it.
She had previous OD's and it was just a matter of time. I had a head injury prior to losing her so it has been difficult to process the whole scenario. I have gone out for lunch with her brother and visited with her mother as well. There have been so many suicides (other than these two) and it really never is easy is it? I think that when I wrote this, it was the saddest that I have felt. It is bittersweet, she is not in pain anymore but I miss her terribly. Thanks so much for the comments, it helped a lot. |

Joanne I'm so glad you came back to fill in the missing pieces. When I read your last post I thought of the book, No Time To Say Goodbye by Carla Fine...what a wonderful friend she had in you and how important that is for our lives.
Suicide is nothing short of wrenching and the aftermath seems to last forever. I'm sorry you are experiencing this and to answer your original question...yes, it does get better eventually..it's been 20 yrs since our Michael completed suicide. I can finally remember all the good times our family had together without first thinking of how it ended.

I'm so glad you reached out Joanne. Everyone of us are here because we either lost some-one to suicide, or a friend or relative tried and failed, or else we did ourselves.
It's such a short time ago that you lost your friend. 7 months is almost yesterday as far as grieving goes, so I can understand why your heart aches as it does. I don't think there's ever a time when you can ever say that you're over it, but I think a time eventually comes when it doesn't hurt quite as much as it did before. I'm sorry you have had the suicides of 2 people so close to you to deal with. I lost a cousin to suicide more than 20 years ago, but I still think about it.

You are on our minds. Sometimes it feels like you can never see the light - then something happens to perk things up a bit. You are a truly caring person and those are the kinds that get hurt. Doesn't seem like a fair world to me. Hugs. Barbo
