Default Very upset...just weighed myself!

Okay, just to update you all. I am 4 foot 11 and I used to weigh 125...(good weight) once upon a time. Well I just weighed myself and I weigh a whopping 195 pounds!!!!!! I have gained 20 pounds since I joined you all last year. How and why did ths happen?!?!?
I feel like a total failure.
What happened in the last year to me???? What did I do that was so wrong? God Todd was right, I am bad...really bad. No wonders he had a "talk" with me a couple of weeks ago.
Right now I am so upset with myself and am on the verge of tears. How could I do this to myself!?
I can't even express how upset I am.
So ladies...I need your help!!

Heart Wendy~

Is any medicine causing this? When I took Neurontin I gained 30 pounds in a year. The nurse said it doesn't do this to you, but I know different. It at least makes you very hungry and therefore you gain. I have read to many stories about this problem with this drug on the forum.

Don't beat yourself up. Get a good diet book and start planning your meals. I need to do this too! And weigh every week anyway. That will help. if you lose just a little it will encourage you to go on. Maybe someone else has good ideas and will post.

((((((((((Wendy)))))))))))).

If it makes you feel better, a year and a half ago, I was over 300. I'm still bigger'n you, too!

Changing how you eat and think about food is hard work; I won't lie about that. The things that have helped me the most are planning ahead and measuring my food out. I also have low blood sugar, so portioning out protein (which is often higher in fat) is crucial. I also try to eat when I just start to feel hungry so I'm not tempted to overindulge, and I substitute in any similar-tasting foods I can for the higher-fat, higher-cal stuff I used to eat.

Also, eat often, small meals, lots of water, and bulk up whatever you're eating with fiber and veggies. You'll feel full for a longer time. This is how I have lost over 90 lbs in the past 17 months. I am the world's pickiest eater, too, so planning and creativity have been a must!

I hope this helps! Hang in, never give up, and know we understand.

Thanks Liz. I really appriciate the advice. As I said in the daily check in, I didn't sleep very well last night and I am very tired today. I gotta go grocery shopping today so the frozen veggies will be on the list today!
Still feeling very shocked and dejected but better.
Billie to answer your question, I was on Neurontin just over a year ago and gained a ton of the weight then. Recently I was put on Depakote for my BiPolar and part of it may be from that.
So here I am about 70 pounds overweight and just realized it.

Hey, honey.

You're right about where I am. I have approx. 70 to go--but over 90 is gone!! All it takes is some planning, some substitution, and a lot of patience. Don't expect to change overnight; you won't. Baby steps, and lots of self-talk. It works. I'm proof!

Red face

I am sorry wendy,
It is so easy to put on weight.
I was 195 as well 6 years ago and have since then been yo yoing ever since.
I am now about 15 pounds short of my goal weight...I put on 8 pounds over the holidays...awful
Let me say this about your depakote.
Yes it will encourage you to put weight on.
I have heard that trileptal is weight neutral as a mood stabilizer. and you don't have to have blood draws for therapuetic levels JUST HAve your sodium checked about every 6 months.
I was on that for a couple of years, but my electrolites became abnormal.
Hang in there!
and here....

Default That's Why We Are All Here!

Dear Wendy;

What the others have told you is correct. Each day, however, is a brand new day and a chance to go forward. Liz is absolutely right when she says baby steps.

A menu plan that is right for you is a good way to go. Weight Watchers and other popular diets have cookbooks that will help a lot. And if you can walk, start as soon as you are ready but slowly. Add more distance every day.

That's all I can think of right now except giving you lots of (((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))!!!!

Hang tough,
NancyH

Heart

wendy,

you probably know by now that i own a health club. i have been in this industry for 18 years. i don't post my certifacation or degrees.

but i wanted you to know that you are in the exact place you need to be mentally to lose weight. you have acknowledged that you need to lose and how much.

i have seen countless women over the years that fool themselves with how much they weigh or how much they think they need to lose. they all fail.

also remember as we age, our metabolisms slow down. our bodies change. the weight we think is our ideal weight may not actually be so. you may find that 145 is your new ideal weight. (the meds did not help..and that IS NOT YOUR FAULT!!!)

setting short term goal is key. weighing and measuing often is very important. it is easier to lose the 1 lb you might put back on, than letting 5- 10 crepp up. plus that is very discouraging. remember, your weight will flucuate during the month. thatis ok and nothing to be worried about.

the support here is fantastic. we are all in this togerther. 1 pound at a time. we all lean on each other to make better choices. we are here for you wendy. i know you can and will do it.

Curious, thank you for your professional opinion about my situation. Today I went to the grocery store and bought the healthy foods I need to start myself off.
This is going to be a long, rough road but I think I can do it. I just wish the darn meds weren't fighting against me.

awesome wendy!!!

just do not beat yourself up if you wander a bit. that is ok. you can't deprive yourself of all the foods you love. i can help you modify recipes. watch the portion size. have a piece a cake. it is ok. eating the whole cake is not. remind my thin athletic son of that. or my husband that a bowl of ice cream is NOT a mixing bowl full. he doesn't have a pound to lose either.
