Yes....I have had fibromyalgia for 18 years and essential tremor since early 1980's. The tremors have gotten much worse in the last 3 years, even more disabaling than the fibromyalgia. The usual drugs have not helped and have terrible side affects. I am not very drug tolerant, so not surprising. DBS has been discussed, but sounds very scary. Have you had any success with treatment?

Island - I have essential tremors (familial). In my family there are 4 of us that I know that have it. We each take something different. I have MS so I take gabapentin for nerve pain and this helps with the tremors. One family member only has fine tremors and he doesn't take anything. Another family member takes nortriptyline and that seems to work for her and another takes Ativan and something else and that does the trick for him. I guess it's just a matter of finding what you can tolerate.

I recently began taking Ativan as well for muscle spasms and this really does help the tremors. Even though I am on gabapentin, I still had fine tremors. But the Ativan (lorazepam) seems to really stop all the tremors (MS and essential). I only take a small amount as needed (0.5 mg). I don't tolerate meds well either but I have been able to tolerate the Ativan with no side effects.

I hope they find something that will work for you.
