Default I have a new Verizon DSL Question for you.

I have a friend who just discovered the internet. She had only been doing email. She's 72 by the way and just got her first computer.

I had told her 'if you could see anything again (that you experienced in your youth), what would you like to view?

She said "Oh that's easy, South Pacific"

I said "with who, Mary Martin or Mitzi Gaynor"??

She said: "I can see both of them?"

I said "I can show you South Pacific from the movie, the stage in NYC, a stage in Philadelphia, ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SEE.

She couldn't get over it. We were having breakfast in our local cafe.

I told her 'go home and I'll send you a link to youtube". She said "What's youtube?"

Well!!!! when I got finished with her she was hysterical. I have sent her Liberace, South Pacific and MANY OTHER YOUTUBE LINKS.

She is a youtube expert now, and loves it.

She has asked me a question about her Verizon DSL connection.

She wants a faster connection. She pays $21.99 a month and gets the 768 thing.

So I gather she has the basic cheap dsl package.

She wants to know how she can get a faster speed from Verizon. I told her to call them up, ask them for their various plans and when she hears one that she can afford, she'll tell them, they will upgrade her and that will be it.

But....someone has told her that when you go to a faster level, you have to insert a cd rom in a drive.

She would not know how to do this.

I told her "I have never heard of this, I think you can just call them and they can do it from their end"

so if anyone knows the answer it would help my new friend. She is a dear.

Oh and this if funny. Yesterday she asked me "Do you remember when 50 years ago, they used to give permanent waves to women in the beauty parlors but they hooked them up to this huge machine that was hung from the ceiling?" I told her "not only do I remember but my father owned a beauty parlor and I never forgot that sight".

She sighed and said "I would give anything to see one of those again".

I went home, found it on the internet and sent her the link.

She is in permanent wave machine heaven.

lol

You're right she can call Verizon and they will do it all on their end.

I've never heard of the cd part of it at all.
Unless the person was thinking of AOL/dial up or something.

Hi Melody, like Jo*mar said, Verizon should be able to make any changes or upgrades on their end. The actual speed of her connection also depends on the telephone infrastructure where she lives as DSL comes through the phone system. This meaning the size of cables, how old they are and mostly, the number of people online at any given time. They have what call "Peak and off Peak" hours. During peak hours, the system gets overloaded and it actually slows down everyones connection speed that is on that system.

As long as she already has Verizon DSL all they have to do is increase the speed at their end, the software is the same. If the phone wires are very old in her home it will limit the speed, may have to have new wires run to the computer from the input to the house.

Hi, I want to thank all of you who responded. I passed all of the information on to her last night in an email, and this morning I ran into her on the avenue. She said: "Please thank everyone for giving me that info".

Imagine, a 72 year old woman, who just got her computer, just learned about youtube, loves Liberace and South Pacific, and is now even thinking about upgrading her dsl speed.

GOTTA LOVE THAT!!

lol, Melody
