My baby, Noelle is getting spayed today and a tooth pulled. She is so small. Not even 6 pounds, I am so worried about her. I could barely sleep last night.

Please pray for her. I decided to get her spayed to reduce health risks for such a small dog. She is a house dog and I don't want her having any heat cycles. She is almost a year old.

Aw, she'll be fine. And.....she'll be in better health years down the road, too. If she could say "thank you" I'm sure she would!

It's so hard turning our beloved pets over to the vet for any procedure. Even if we know it's for their own benefit.

I'm sayin' a prayer for Noelle right now. In a few days she'll be good as new and feeling better!

My kitten is due soon for a spay. And I am still concerned about her. The presurgical workup showed low white cells, so the Vet postponed it for 2 weeks.

They use a laparoscope to do this now, which is a tiny incision with no external stitches for cats anyway. For cats the internal stitches are designed to be absorbed.

I've been told by vets for both dogs and cats, doing spays prevents breast cancer among other things for house pets.

Many decades ago when spays were not common cancer was.
We had a red cocker who developed it in 3 of her glands and by the time my parents noticed, it had spread to her kidneys. We had to put her to sleep when the surgery she had failed to stop it.

Weez who weighs in at 6 lbs now, gets another blood test on Apr 6, and if the blood work and the Vet agree then she will have her spay the next week.

After we had Panda spayed she gained weight more readily. Gracie did the same thing. I hope Weezie's blood work improves and she can have the spay done.

Weez is very long now... when she stretches out she fills my desktop.

Most of it is muscle in the hind legs so far. She is now able to leap up on counters and high places more successfully. But she was rather awkward for quite a while. Not like our other cats, who did this when younger.

But she does have a little tummy. Not eating as much now as before tho. When she sits up alert to watch something, her little neck is rather small, and fragile looking. So I guess most of her weight is in those chubby rear legs! She and Oreo are getting along much much better, and actually playing some now. They now greet each other doing "kissey noses" more often.
Weez was terrified of Oreo who I think expanded in size due to the revenge eating she did in the beginning when Weez arrived. So I feel relieved that they are on better terms, at least on Weezie's side. Oreo has been patient and good to her, but Weez has been terrified anyway!

I was talking to a lady in the check out at Costco on Sunday morning and her name was WEEZY too! I am finding Weezies all over now!

I totally understand the anxiety of putting a small animal thru surgery.
I am pretty anxious about it too.

I knew she was alright when she stopped n pooped on the Vet's exam table before we left. The first time I took her to get groomed she did that on our way out.

Just her little way of saying "thanks"!

Sounds like a "statement" to me! LOL

It is good they are groggy...not likely to jump around and hurt themselves.

When I picked up Fudge from being neutered, he was jumping all over the place (as Lab puppies are wont to do). The VA remarked, "You wouldn't believe he was on the table just 2 hours ago...."

He was, and is, fine. ....and still jumping all over the place.

There are two major ways to anesthesize animals for surgery.

In the cat world this is a controversy. The cat specialists mostly all use inhaled gas (I don't know the name), which wears off very quickly with no side effects. The animal can go home same day as a rule with no complications.

The other way is injectable drugs which linger and cause alot of groggy behavior. The Vets using this type typically keep the animal overnight, so they won't hurt themselves. My late cat Tippy had tooth work done, with this type several years ago and was released same day... she tried to jump thru the glass of a closed window at home she was so confused.

The cat only place I am going to now, only uses the gas. They claim it is safer all around for animals. I chose to go there this time because Weez can come home and not have to stay overnight, which would be a bigger stressor for her than the surgery itself, IMO. She is very timid and afraid of everything.

If you watch science programs on TV that have vets, you can most often see them using gas.

She was given a little local anestetic and then gassed. She doesn't seem to be in any pain just recovering. She is doing what I want to be doing, laying around. Thanks for all your words of encouragement. It's nice to hear stories of reassurement and know others who have gone through this with their pets. i used to think that people who treated their pets like family members were weird but now I understand.
