Default Seat belt uncomfortable

I have been diagnosed with PN in abdomen. I also have it in other locations in body. I am on gabapentin 1600mg.

For example, it hurts to wear pants. After experimenting I have found some pull on wide waist band pants I can tolerate. For the most part, I wear dresses.

Which brings me to next question. It hurts me to sit as it is but sitting in car with seat belt is even worse.

I have been getting by driving short distances with travel pillow between myself and belt.

For long distance, DH drives and I have been in back seat without belt.

Now our state, Illinois, has passed law that back seat passengers must have belts starting Jan 1, 2012.

Is there any trick to making seat belts more comfortable? The best one I have found accidentally is wearing my down coat in winter.

I thought of pursuing a doctor's waiver. Anyone ever get one of these and was it difficult?

My aunt got a waiver years ago, I don't know the process though.
I suppose check your state website for info - or ask your doctor what they know about it.

I'd look into it, if you got the waiver you could still use seat belt if needed, but then wouldn't have to worry about tickets & fines if it is too uncomfortable for you.

You could have a mechanic modify the belt,
so that is is just the chest harness and not the lap belt
That might be an option and at the same time would 'look' as if
you are wearing the full harness with lap belt.

I am not familiar but maybe if you google some key words around seat belt for health problems or pain etc items may come up. I hope you find something to help

I still feel that a good 'problem solver' mechanic
would be an answer.
