Default Pain Medication

Is it bad to take one Daviset a day for pain?

I can skip days but it does hurt more the days I don't take any. I never take more then one a day.

Default Medication

I don't know of Davicet, but I have been on many medications in the past. Right now I take Percocet for pain, about 4 per day. I am not happy about this but it is hard to deal with every-day life in pain. Wish you the best. Linda

many here take pain meds.
For me, I have to take them regularly to keep the pain undercontrol. I take a long acting 12 hr medicine (Opana ER) and I have breakthrough meds that are short acting but also kick in fast (vicodin). Once I start to hurt, it continues to get worse unless i do something to stop it. SO, basically I am on something *most* of the time. I try to take breaks to get an idea of how I am feeling without meds..but they are usually short lived. If I go too long without, i will get very very tense and hurt more and more until i have to take a whole lot of something to calm it down.

It is a very personal decision for each TOS'er (or chronic pain patient of any sort) because we really can't be inside eachother's bodies. However, there is no reason for you to go throug life in pain- in the end you will lose your range of motion and muscle tone from protecting yourself too much, or worse, your general happiness or sanity...!

I try very hard to take enough that I can get through the day, but not so much that I can't feel when i might be hurting myself.

just my thoughts, though.

Johanna

Personally I feel Darvocette is like taking m&M's for pain with TOS.

A plan of pain management should ahve at least percocette minimal, and an anti-inflamatory, along with a muscle relaxant. I find that, the generic oxycodone help me the best with nerve pain and head pains. Valium as a muscle spasm, topomax for nerve pain and migrain prevention...Toradol for flare ups.

TOS needs agressive support for pain....Darvocette, to not take one a day is tough....Keep ahead of pain and take that darvocette every day. When I first developed the problems post surgery with my knee the ortho perscribed Darvocette, at two a day. It worked better then bextra and celebrex. I never was concerned with addiction worries with it.

Keep on top of pain instead of playing catch up
Dianne

I'm with DiMarie, Darvocet is also like taking candy for me- it does NOTHING for me at all. I'm not on regular narcotics meds like some here have to take but have found that taking my Zanaflex on a regular basis, every day, whether I feel like I need it or not, and my Elavil at bedtime, pretty much keeps the pain down to a dull roar most of the time.

I'll tell you what my PM dr. told me at one of my visits when I was still seeing him (damn insurance cos.... )- as far as people getting addicted to narcotics- because I was concerned about that if the time ever came. He told me that people who are taking narcotics for actual pain, like chronic conditions such as this, hardly ever get addicted to it. It's people that continue to take it long after they stopped needing it- such as for acute pain, like after surgery- that can have a problem with that. I guess they like the "buzz", or whatever you call it,(maybe the nurses here can explain more about this) that they get from it. Although I have to say, the times I've had to take it after surgery or for the occasional bad flare, I don't feel any different than I did before I took it. Toradol REALLY helped me after my last foot surgery when Vicodin and Demerol didn't help at all.
