Thumbs up I'm in raptures over Azilect!

Just when I thought that I had to accept my fate, my ever worsening symptons and crazy dyskinesia, thereby losing my personal autonomy of coming and going at my leisure, driving a car and having a social life, a little miracle has happened:

I was at the neuros' last week for the yearly follow-up of a nationwide study on YOPD which I am part of, and while going through the testing, my neuro noticed that I was far more dyskinetic and jittery than last year. It's probably the Stalevo, she said, and asked whether I had heard about Azilect (rasagiline). I said yes, but knew nobody taking it. It's something like a new generation of selegiline, but much improved.

Well, she gave me a prescription to try it (a blister with 30 1 mg-tablets). You take one (or half) in the morning and it lasts 24 hours. I simply could not believe it, half a tablet (0,5 mg) cuts it for me. I'm free of dyskinesia all day, my movements are much smoother and I can go out of the house whenever I want, without worrying about not being able to drive back or have a fit of dyskinesia in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's as if I had turned back the time 3 or 4 years. I'm really happy with it.

Hugs to all and especially you fellow-dyskinetics!

Teresa,
I'm happy to hear that Azilect is working so well for you. I have been taking it also (1-mg) for about a month with good results. The only complaint I have is the constipation side effect. I've tried to control it with increased water and fresh fruit and dried prunes, but its still a problem. Maybe I'll try cutting back to 1/2 tab to see if that works any better. Keep us posted on your progress.

Azilect has been great for us, too. After only one or two doses of Alizlect, I woke one morning to see my husband's face back... expression, smile, everything...no more 'mask'. I couldn't hold back my tears.

Thumbs up What a blessing, Teresa.

I am very happy for you.

I must admit having had a great deal of skepticism concerning the real efficacy of Azilect. After hearing of your wonderful results, I am skeptical no more! I had seen where others on the forum had been taking it for days or weeks with no perceptible improvement, and even unpleasant side effects, and thought, "Yep, another me-too ripoff." Isn't it funny how hearing about good results from someone you know and believe in can change one's mind so easily? This is just another demonstration of the differences in response to meds among us regarding what works and what does not.

Happy driving, walking, skipping, dancing, as well as sitting quietly and still whenever you want to!

Robert
