Default Low blood pressure

Hi,

My Name is Levy Belcher, I live in Glasgow, Kentucky. This is my first post. I
did not find this good site until today. Looks like you have some very interesting people here.

I am concerned about my wife. Can either of you help. At times her blood pressure goes way down. It will be about 60 over 45. Last Friday when she
got out of bed and came to the breakfast table, she started taking her blood pressure. I noticed her beginning to lower her head. She passed out. I tried to bring her around but she would not respond. I shook her, talked to her and tried everything I knew to get her waked up. After about 5 minutes or more, I got her to respond. I finally got her to the bed and she started to be normal again. I called 911 and got her to the emergency room as fast as I could. The emeregency rood Doctor started running blood test, EKG, blood pressure etc, and sent her home. Telling her to drink coffee and eat more salt. I don' t like this for an answer. He said the caffein would bring her blood pressure up and make her feel better. We made an appointment with our family Doctor in 5 days. She advised the same kind of treatment. What do you say about this
kind of treatment?
Thanks,
Levy

Hi, Levy, welcome to NeuroTalk!

What I say about this kind of treatment is, GET A REAL DOCTOR! That's unbelievable that they would not try to figure out why this is happening to her and how to control it. Please don't give up, something must be causing such dramatic drops in her blood pressure.

HI Levy,

Welcome. I agree with AMN that you need to get a doc who is interested in figuring out why this is happening.

Please make sure that she stays hydrated and plenty water. The salt advice is not bad advice but first and foremost they need to figure out why this is happening.

The reference to salt would be related to adrenal disease. Did they give her some saline (salt water) intravenously at the hospital? Did she feel better?

Do you have the blood tests from the hospital. Make sure you get copy. Look at the sodium and potassium levels. If the sodium is under 140 or lower and the potassium is over 4.0 they are out of whack meaning her electrolytes were probably off which can affect blood pressure.

Please try to find a doctor who can monitor her and will help figure this out. If it is related to adrenal disease you are best off seeing an endocrinologist. Also probably not a bad idea to see a cardiologist too.

Please let us know how she is doing.

Default Drop in blood prressure

Thanks to Cindy and Shelley for your reply and advise. I to, thought there
was a better treatment for low blood pressure than drinking coffee and
eating more salt. My wife also had a bladder infection when we went to the
emergency room. The Doctor prescribed a pill for that which made her feel
bad for a few days. However, today she is much better. Her blood sugar
was 90, her blood pressure was 114 over 75. She took her mile walk and is
doing fine. She is not a dibetic. However, our family Doctor said her average
sugar for three months was a little high. She is to stay off sweets and no
bread for a while. She is staying in out of the hot sunshine. Temp. here in
Kentucky has been over 90 degrees for several weeks. I'll try to keep her in.
I'll try to get a copy of the lab report. Thanks.

I appreciate your comments very much.

Hi Levy and Welcome. I have always had low BP, so can relate somewhat to what your wife is going thru. I have not passed out, but I've gotten light headed plenty of times.

Mine has been that low B4, but lately, it tends to run 90/66 or around that number.
