Question fibromyalgia - Gabapentin side effects questions

Hi, I have joined to learn a bit more about the latest in FM pain treatment. Have been diagnosed since 1994. Had my FM under control for many years. Recent stress, a move to a new area with new doctors who have refused to prescribe the medication that has helped me for many years has led to a bad flare up and I am nearly at wits end trying to deal with an inability to get the treatment that I desperately need for my pain. Currently, I am experiencing terrible muscle spasms in my neck, shoulder and back that. The new doctor thought I should try Gabapentin, which I have, but it has left me with weight gain and bloating and hasn't helped much except for some nerve pain I have in my legs and has helped some with the Restless Legs. I also take Mirapex for the restless legs. Does anyone know if Gabapentin can be causing the increase in muscle spasms?

I will go back to the doctor next week and will be telling her to take me off of Gabapentin. I am already taking myself off of it slowly so that I will be completely off of it by next week.

I have difficulty taking Flexeril and Hydrocodone during my work hours as it causes me to have a bit of memory and mental confusion that just doesn't allow me to do my job to my full potential when I take them. I do not want to lose my ability to function in the work place. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to handle the doctor's and their inability to accept that I am suffering with the pain and muscle spasms and need relief? I need something that will allow me to function but without pain.

Hi Gaylet, welcome to NT.

I think you should copy and paste your post into the FM forum. I'm sure you can get a lot more advice from the people there.

I don't have FM, but a lot of us here can sympathize with the issue of medications and coping with the outside world. It's a difficult balance to achieve, and I am hoping for the best for you.
