Frown need to vent, and a little support

Ok, for those of you who don't know me, try to keep up. For those who do, follow along.

My DW has been working since October as a customer service agent for a major insurance company. Just before she started she had her third brain surgery for hydrocephelas. This time they put a V/P shunt in to drain excess h2o into her abdomen. Since that surgery, her concintration is very low, her energy is low, and has had some personality changes. Don't get me wrong, I love her more than ever and that won't change.

Her employer told her today she wasn't doing her work to department standards. They gave her today off to come home and think about if this is a good job for her. It is the best paying job she has ever had which ain't much) and the benefits are great. My medicare starts in May. I have multiple problems and health care is very important for us.

I told her if she can stick it out for another month, I will apply for state medicaid. I am very supportive but if she loses this job, I feel she should apply for SSDI and stay home. She has had difficulty with jobs and I truely feel after this last brain surgery, she doesn't have the concintration to work anymore. We are only 38 years old. Little young to retire poor, but I think that is on the horizon.

Thoughts and prayers appreciated.

Could she use FMLA and short term disability for awhile to get her health up and then return to work? Seems like they are trying to force her out before she has a chance to heal!! I'd be in self preservation mode. If that's not possible, what you have in mind may be the sensiable solution.

Hugs and Prayers for you and your wife!

Wow, you two are young and you sure have your crosses to bear!

Sounds like your DW's employer is going to let her go. Isn't it worth your time to get the details? I mean to find out where she is falling short. Can this be improved.

If it cannot can you request that they keep DW until you are Medicare eligible?

Maybe a trial period or something like that?

Is there something the two of you can work at together where you each do something well that the other does not?

I'm talking work at home stuff.

Most employers aren't brutal but they are conscious of making sure their product is the best so they can continue to be in business. I know you know that as does dear wife.

They've given you some time, though I'm not sure what it is she is supposed to go home and think about?

Thanks. FMLA doesn't kick in until she is there a year, so that is not an option. We have some idea's, I will let you know...

You certainly have my thoughts and prayers, Earl.

3 brain surgeries and she still wants to work? My hat is off to your wife!

Customer service (insurance, none the less) has got to be pretty intense. If she can hang in there another month that would be great. Maybe if she does want to keep working, she could find something that requires less cognitive effort.

If she'd rather be home I completely understand. Either way, I hope it all works out for you both.

Sending prayers your way! Maybe they can let her stay on until May at least. I would also speak with her doctor about disability.
