All,
I am new to this forum. I recently had thoracic outlet surgery (rib resection and two scalene muscles removed)...I'm 3 months out of surgery and still require a significant amount of therapy. My work is requiring that I move to Melbourne Australia - which means I need to find a therapist there. Does anyone know of any good therapists there that I can use? Thanks - please also respond to john.j.mcvey@donriver.com Thanks - and I wish everyone great health. JJ |

Hi JOhn,
First off welcome! I am sorry to hear you have TOS. BUt you have found a great bunch of people here. We are good listeners and very resourceful. While I do not have any recommendations on specific PT's for you I can recommend two books written by PT's both for TOS. I will send a copy of it to your email Here is her website. www.selfcare4rsi.com The second is by Suparna Dmanay. Below is her webiste. I got her book on amazon. http://www.tosinfo.com/links/hcp/suparna.html Last some people also swear by the Edgelow Protocol. http://www.edgelow.com/ Hope this helps. |

Hi and Welcome,
Have you heard or read anything about Bowen work? Australia is the home of the founder so there should be many good practitioners. The Bowen type of body work might work better for after you have some basic therapeutic PT. Sometimes you need to ask around at clinics, hospitals to get a short list of names and places, then go in person and chat with them a bit. usually if they are not real busy at the desk they will have time to answer some questions. Then again sometimes you just have to go and "test drive" a place to find out how they are when they get 'hands on" I would suggest a person with advanced training and one that is involved in keeping up to date with a variety techniques and uses many techniques as they are needed.

There is a very well known australian PT named David Butler. He wrote a textbook on nerve entrapments and central nervous system changes from pain called The Senstive Nervous System(www.noigroup.com). Peter Edgelow, a well known US TOS PT trained with him.
I don't know if Butler sees patients, but you should be able to find someone trained in his methods. I did meet an australian with TOS and he stated the australian PT's are much better trained on average to deal with repetitve strain injuries compared to the average US PT's. |
