Hello! I am in SF and I am happy to pass along some feedback I got on 2 of the 3 doctors I was given to choose from (for workers' comp).
They are: Benjamin C. Lau- 4306 Geary Blvd, SF Jules P. Steimnitz- 1580 Valencia St, SF I was told by an atty who had dealt with both that Lau was no good. He even said "Bottom line ... let's stay away from him." He had positive experiences w/ Steimnitz (and hadn't heard of the 3rd QME whom I didn't list)... so I went to Steimnitz. Fortunately, he was very good to me in his report to my WC insurance. I was prepared for the worst but came out on top!! Ann, may I ask if you are in a WC situation too? I hope my experience is helpful for you!

Ann,
I have been a patient of Dr. Steimnitz's since Dr. Tracy Newkirk retired in 2006. Dr. Steimnitz has a good understanding of TOS and has quite a few patients (I think). I don't know what your situation is, but Dr. Steimnitz seems to favor managing TOS more as a myofascial problem than something that should be addressed by surgery (too bad for me since I had already had surgery which was not successful). Thanks for the information, this is just what I needed....
Thursday.... I filed for WC in 4.2004 with complaints of arm, neck, back and shoulder pain...they did the usual pt and then an MRI on my neck and sent me right to surgery...I had 2 herniated dics a severe compression on my cord..so fixed all that, tried to go back to work, MISTAKE.....sooo much pain. Finally had a MRA/MRV/MRI (while doing Edglow therapy) I see DR. Avery who says sorry...your nerves are so compressed you have to have surgery....so here I am, the ins. co. denies, I need a QME, one who knows TOS, I need surgery.....I want my arm back, I want my life back, I don't want to rely on medicine, I want pain free days...... I also had surgery with Dr. Avery in 2005.
Dr. Steimnitz does NOT seem to favor surgery for TOS (although I'm sure it's different for each person). |
