Default One of these things is not like the others...

Did you ever feel as though you were one of the things Big Bird says "just doesn't belong"?

I'm not particularly having a pity party, and I'm not really lonely today or depressed. Just thinking about life.

Probably some kind of psychological disorder (mild, I hope!) but I think I've ALWAYS felt like the odd one out, even when I was a kid. I'm a people person, talk with strangers in the produce aisle, yada yada. I've just always felt, when part of a group, as though I just don't quite fit in.

I'm not so stupid that I think we all have to be cookie cutter copies of each other, same likes and dislikes, whatever. But it's disconcerting.

Am I making any kind of sense at all??

Honestly B2U, you scare me sometimes.... I have been feeling the same way today! I was part of the Memorial Day Parade this morning and I just didn't feel like I was part of the whole group participating - this was our second year together and it didn't feel right for me. Not that I shouldn't be doing it.... I don't know how to explain it - you did a good job!

Needless to say I know just how you feel.

Makes perfect sense to me, B2Y. I feel the same way, too. No particular reason that I can pinpoint, either.....

I do know what you mean, B2U and I have felt that way at certain times, at certain functions....especially when I was younger.

You are not alone, Dear One..

I have had that feeling most of my life. I'm a people person that loves getting into conversations.... but I'm a one person at a time kind of gal. I don't function well in large groups. Even way back as a child, people often commented to my parents about how well I played by myself.

I have always had sensory overload issues... especially auditory. My hearing checks out perfect, it's just the processing in the brain that has gone haywire. I tend not to get into conversations if a group is involved because I just become the "wallflower" because I can't handle the many voices at once.

Until I was diagnosed with MS and learned all the possible things that it could affect, I just thought I was an odd ball.

This describes me to a "T". I think the only situation I'd be comfortable in with a group of people that's more than four is a GTG with board buddies from NeuroTalk!! At least they would understand why I can't keep up with multiple conversations!! Sensory overload is so hard to try and explain to others.

Hey B2~ I kind of think that we all might have a little of that feeling from time to time. I do better if I know someone in a new group of people, whether it be a meeting of some sort or just being at a gathering. (not talking about NT GTG)

If I'm in a group of people that I don't know, I feel like a fish out of water.

We went to a party once and I knew the hostess, but she couldn't spend all her time w/us obviously, so I was really uncomfortable. DH spotted some friends from work and started talking to them. Everyone else knew each other and I felt like they were all talking about me. I don't think they were, but I had that weird out of the "group" feeling.

Oh and Kelly, I'd love to meet ya at a GTG~ I have a feeling, you'd put anyone at ease. (you too B2Y)

Well, eventually, someone had to do it.
