Default What is it about bento boxes?

I admit it, I'm fascinated by them. The thought of having my food compartmentalized into cute, colorful little containers all packaged into one box really appeals to me. For no reason at all, I have this odd desire to mold my food (specifically, rice) into cute shapes and carve fruits and veggies into animals to put into my future child's little bento box.

I think it's the cuteness. I'm ready to buy, but I have to check them all out before I can commit. They already make fun of the lunches I make him at work, DH is going to be so embarrassed when he opens up a box full of "cute food".

Those are really cute !!!!
I used to pack lunches for my family and I used those paper bags with cartoon figures on them and a line that said: "This belongs to:" with space to write their names on it.

My husband carried a bag to work everyday - with cartoons and his name printed on it. He actually got a kick out of it and he was a very serious minded man but apparently the jokes in his office about his lunch was much fun for all...

Thumbs up

i don't think grandmonkey would give up any of his lunch boxes. he got 2 from shelley.

but he loves that i fold his napkin in origami shapes. and use cookie cutters on sandwichs and cut his veggies cool.

It's a Japanese lunch box, kind of like a colorful puzzle of little nesting boxes inside, different shapes & sizes and filled with cookie-cutter-shaped foods.

Can you even imagine a naval officer opening that in front of his mates?????

It's like giving Tony Soprano a Barbie lunchbox!!!!!

I think I even saw them in the Skymall catalog! They're not for chickens, B2.

My idea of "cooking cute" is making a smiley face with the pepperoni.

Don't feel bad, B2~ I had no idea what Bento Boxes were either until this thread. I'll just continue to pack my DH's blue and white Playmate cooler.

I think your future lil ones will love them tho, Gret! Don't let AMN fool ya; I saw several of them in the back of her car at the GTG.
