Default Partying at the British Consulate

One of the physicians we refer to is from South Africa. Apparently, many of the foreigners around here keep to themselves, and have parties at all of the different consulates. Last evening there was a cocktail party at the British Consulate's home, and we somehow were invited. Normally, I'm not up to these kinds of things, and don't socialise with "society".

We decided to go just to be with some of my people for a change, and to see how the "upper crust" lives. I wore a cocktail dress, and thought I looked rather nice. We walked uphill about 3 blocks after parking as close as we could to the home, and by the time I got into the home, I thought I was going to pass out.

Well, it was a lovely home, but it was OUTSIDE, by the pool! Most of the people there knew one another through business, although we did meet a few people our age that were interesting to chat up with. I noticed that I was one of the few women who wasn't wearing a chapeau. We're talking hats with feathers, and HUGE brims, and even the men were wearing all kinds of straw chapeaus. A good time was had by all, and I spent a good part of the party talking with the consulate's wife who wasn't at all "stuffy". She was mad funny, and had us in tears from laughter.

I had a tad too much to drink, and don't recall returning to the car or home last evening. Whoever says the Brits are stuffy, has never spent an afternoon with a bunch of drunk Brits in the US.

Carry on.

Glad the 3 block trip down to the car was easier than the trip up. Maybe you should've gotten blizted before you went, Chris. Then you wouldn't remember how hard it was to walk up the hill either. *ka-racking self up*

AMN told me that some of the Brits were lushes. But, you didn't hear it from me.

Glad you had a good time.
