The first Parkinson's symptoms that I developed were stiffness, weakness of my muscles, physical fatigue, an action tremor, and cogwheel rigidity in my limbs. I recently noticed something strange in my wrists. If I am sitting in a chair with my arms on the armrests and the top of my hands are facing up towards the sky and my palms are facing the ground, and I bend my wrists down towards the ground to a different position, my hands shake uncontrollably during that movement. If I move faster, it is not as noticeable. If I move slower, it is more pronounced. This is present in both of my hands, but worse in my left side, as is the majority of my stiffness. I called my doctor's office and spoke with the Nurse Practitioner. She said that it sounds like cogwheel rigidity in my wrists. My next appointment is in August so she said that they will check it out then. This makes me nervous because it seems like things are progressing rather quickly. I am on Zelapar in the morning and Mirapex .5mg 3X a day. Does anybody else experience this type of shaking? I appreciate any feedback.

Hi Evonne,
I had that kind of movement in my right arm, and after adjusting my Sinemet up, this has all but disappeared except for the first thing in the morning. John |

Hi Evonne,
I think the cogwheel phenomenon is a core symptom of Parkinson's disease. To make a movement the antagonist muscles have to give way, to relax while the agonist muscles contract. Somehow in Parkinson's disease this does not happen properly. It 's a bit like pushing a bicycle with blocked wheel. It will bounce up and down instead of moving steadily.
