Default Drats -- Foiled Again!

Okay, thought I'd finally found my "miracle pill" that took away all that horrible nerve pain. It really worked!!!! But.....about six days into it, I was wondering why I seemed so weak, couldn't stand up as well, or slide my feet around to sit in the recliner, sore throat, achey and headache. You guessed it, side effects of the Carbamacezine (Tegretol). The neuro stopped the med, have to get bloodwork done as it can cause aplastic anemia -- I'm anemic all ready -- and see my pcp to check my general health. At least that worked out okay as I'd made an appointment for Thursday six months ago. I'm going to ask if it's possible to just take 1/2 a pill once or twice a week being it worked so well. We'll see.

The fatigue has been worse too, couldn't stay awake to enjoy my new "pain free" status! Oh yes, it took me 45 minutes to get out of bed Sunday -- then it was pain all day. For some reason, I feel better the next day if I sort of sleep in the recliner.

Ya know......why couldn't just one thing work like it was supposed to.....

Sorry, Judy . It really stinks trying all the different meds until you find one that works long term. I hope you get some relief soon .

Judy
What a bummer about the side effects. I have more problems with them in my search for pain relief. Wellbutrin was the only med that ever made my hands feel any better. After a few years, bam, a doozy of a siezure. Just like that my help was gone.

Keep searching, I've got my flashllight, maybe we can look together.

Hope they find something that works. Maybe once the blood work is in they can look into a lower dosage.

Sorry to hear about the med, Judy! I know what you mean, as the side effects sometimes outweigh the good the RX's are supposed to do. I sure hope the appt on Thurs is a good one and you and your Dr can find something helpful

take care.

that's too bad, about the tegretol.
i hope your dr can find a substitute that works.
they probably won't want to put you back on it at any dose but i'm just guessing on that.

i hope you feel better. i deal with a lot of pain too. i know how hard it is.
