Arrow hello from the wild north woods...eagles etc

I am here at the laundromat charging up and the wifi is working....by some miracle!

I have an eagle story for you all, since our eagle threads were so popular.

There is at least one juvenile out of the nest here, which I have been watching. He sits on rocks and waits for Mom or Dad to
come feed him. But I did see him carrying a snake the other day, so he is trying to hunt.

On the other hand, I did witness an adult eagle killing a Mom duck/merganser early one morning. She shooed the babies ahead and was dive bombed for about 10 minutes...squawking and diving, and apparently lost that battle. I didn't see her "go" but we did see the orphans.
So I have a picture of them, here.

There are six of them in this shot. I watched them try to find a new Mom...it was pretty sad. Merganser's are not ducks, but look like them. So these babies tried to join other families. Mergansers combine groups, so I thought they'd be okay. But alas, we watched the little guys get pecked away, and they ran cheeping from several attempts. Then they got broken up into 4 and 2 ---the group of four finally found a Mom, we saw a duck with two small babies and 4 slightly larger ones, go by yesterday. But the two little ones left over have disappeared and I fear were eaten.

But that is how Nature is I guess. We have never seen eagles hunting as much as this season, either.

MrsD....good to see you and sure hope those adorable "ducklings" will make it with the new mama and that the other two maybe made it as well.

When I lived in africa and went to the game reserves, it was always that awe tinged with sadness to see a magnificent creature take down its prey.

looking forward to the updates on your own lil eagle there
.

hope you are having great R&R

YAY! It's Mrs. D!!!

Thanks for the news.
.
The picture is absolutely adorable, but I'm so sad about those losses (even though I know this happens). I hope the little ones all find/found families.

Thank you!

Such cute babies mrsD. The advice that is always given on the eagle page update says to leave little critters alone usally. I hope the two were just hiding but it does sound bad for them. Enjoy vacation big time for all of us. I always look forward to new pictures from your trips.

Wink update...

Well, laundry time again.. our clothes were pretty ripe....almost moving by themselves!

It's been very cool temp wise here...definitely a long pants summer. Most of the ducks (adult) are gone. I guess the eagle has taken most of them. At one duck/day for 3 eagles that would be 90/month! There are two seagulls now that harry the eagles...and make a distinctive call..to warn the other birds...we watch the gulls divebomb the eagles!

The little orphans did know how to dive and catch minnows..and we still see them in their new family. The other two seem gone.

I have two cool pictures I recently took..one of a buck who was very tame and let me get pretty close--I still used my zoom however a bit...and a beautiful rainbow that appeared briefly after yesterday's storm. We rarely see rainbows since the sun has to be in a certain position...so this was a very special event for me!

We are enjoying the vacation, although I have some chronic GI thing. So I am losing weight (not a bad thing) and having issues with that. But I have read several books, and worked on my flowers. Just feeding everybody (hummers, deer, cats, husband) seems to occupy the day pretty much. We have alot of changeable weather, and it is mostly cool.

Oh deer! What a wonderful picture!

After reading your laundromat post, I'm thinking the reason the deer let you get so close was becuz you no longer had that "civilized" smell.

Did any humans allow you to get that close before you washed your clothes? hehehe!

Glad you stopped by. Please start a photo album when you can. Your photography is amazing!
