Dedicated team reaches out to Parkinson's sufferers
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 http://www.scarborougheveningnews.co...-to.4378711.jp PARKINSON'S Disease services have changed a great deal in Scarborough over recent months. Improvements in services mean that more people are feeling the benefits than ever before and are able to stay closer to home for treatments. However statistics suggest that there may be over a hundred people living in the area who are not getting the full benefit of the services on offer, and the Parkinson's specialists at the hospital are keen to change this. Consultant physician Dr Edward Jones, who joined the trust seven months ago, has a special interest in the disease. He said: "Parkinson's is believed to affect one in every 500 people. Given our population and the number of patients we are currently seeing, we think there are a lot more people out there who are not getting specialist care. "This may be because they have not yet sought medical help or been diagnosed. Whatever the reason, we want to reach as many of these people as we can, so that they can access all the services, drugs, treatments and advice that can potentially help them." READ article
