Hi folks,
Found this site while surfing the web.To give you all some background:my wife[58 yrs.old] has had parkinsons since she was 35.Ten years ago she had a DBS implanted.We have been with Baylor College of Medince [Houston] from the beginning.She rides her stationary bike every morning for an hour[unable to ride her bike anymore].Today we saw a report about people having parkinsons and riding a tandem stationary bike.Has anyone ever heard of this?I have looked but cannot find anyone who sells one.Can anyone help?

If you go to a profesional bike shop, you will find tandem bikes and you can get "trainers" which are certified for use with tandem bikes. These are devices that prevent the bike from going anywhere while you pedal. They suspend the bike slightly off the ground. Bikers use these to train or to "ride" during inclement weather. Just search for bike trainers and you'll get a feel for what they are. Our duaghter is a "biker" and uses a trainer in the winter. I checked and there are some for tandem bikes. Good luck!

I ride a recumbent tricycle every day - maybe this would work for your wife? I know it's not what you'd asked about - but it may be an alternative solution to consider. I love riding and with this tricycle, my eroding balance will never be an issue. Also I've had to give up my morning walks because of foot dystonia. But I can still ride!

I think the benefit from tandem bicycling was theorized to be due to the fact that the PD patient was forced beyond their own capabilities to pedal the bike....

Great idea.I will check it out and let everyone know how I come out.
