Default Middle-aged women drive rise in US suicides

Interesting article in today's news about how middle-aged women have been driving up the US suicide rate.

Quote:
WASHINGTON - U.S. suicide rates appear to be on the rise, driven mostly by middle-aged white women, researchers reported on Tuesday.
Quote:
"The biggest increase that we have seen between 1999 and 2005 was the increase in poisoning suicide in women — that went up by 57 percent," said Susan Baker, a professor in injury prevention with a special expertise in suicide.

very intresting Doody.
2 weeks ago I watched a show on womens health and they had this graph showing the highs and lows of a womans life. The saddest most depressing time for a woman was when we/she goes threw "the change of life" .The line went so low durring this time it scared the ba -gee-bees outta me. But after being done with the change of life it went right back up like when one was 20 years old. I wonder if the study factored in any of that stuff?
Of corse now a days it is the women who are rasing kids as single parrents and the ecconomy the way it is , unemployment... stress and depression are pushed to the limit ,(at least I think so). I guess I am not suprised but I am sad to hear it!

...when, oh when, will doctors learn to LISTEN to their patients? Why don't the words, "pain," and "desperation," ,mean anything to them??? When will they stop putting prejudice in the place where compassion belongs???

Amen to that Mistiis....many drs. are so afraid of overmedicating their patients but they just don't "get the job done" imho. I'd be tempted to go to the nearest ER and start screaming.

Oh Ms. Alffe, that is oh so true. My own doc, whom I adore, will only allow me to have 30 vicodin a month. While that may seem like a lot to some people, it's really difficult with the pain that seems to be fairly constant with the fibro carap.

Maybe a lot of women don't go for help like they should because they don't have a support system of people who understand their inner turmoil. I know quite a few women with husbands who think they should buck up and get over it.
