Default For those who rescue or want to

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering
apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew
I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she
wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view
from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want
her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter
keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about
my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make
a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made
little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head
up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I
instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I
would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do
everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her
eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many
more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to
be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

(((Dottie))) That brought tears to my eyes.

It's so beautiful. And so painful to think about all those sweet, loving souls that need homes. I pray everyday for all the unwanted furbabies in the world.

This little girl that came into my life certainly has given me a ton of unrequited love.

Doody, My 2 never cease to amaze me! No matter how upset I am, they can make me smile. They are helping to keep me sane right now.

Default I love it!!!!

Hi,
I just wanted to say, I love the note! I just rescued my 4th pet on Saturday and my husband is about to kill me but, I just couldn't say no. We went to the Humane Society in Detroit, need I say more.... this dog just looked at me and it was over, his name is Polo and he is a 6 month old labradoodle, we put a deposit on him on Friday and went back to see him on Saturday, and I almost didn't take him but they said they thought he may have kennel cough and if I didn't take him that day then they would try to get him in a foster, but if not he would be put down, so I wasn't willing to take that chance and we now have him, the other animals 2 cats and 1 small dog Coton de Tulear are still adjusting, but I think it will work out just fine, hes a real lover. Luckey us. Smitty

Aw, Smitty, bless your heart. He sounds adorable. A good friend of mine has some kind of doodle and he's beautiful. He's a pretty chocolate brown with a chocolate brown nose and big golden eyes. Those dogs are smart!!! His name is Mocha.

Default My new best friend

I'm new to NT, but I'm getting a rescue doxie tomorrow. I'm so excited. I have a 10 year old doxie and recently went to a dog wash for a rescue group and while my husband stood and waited with our doxie-Dixie, I was looking for a shady spot (I live in Florida) the dachshund rescue people DARE offered me a shady spot and a chair and a doxie to hold. That's how I met my new best friend, he's a 3yr old doxie. We're going to call him Dexter.

Doody,
Your baby is a cutie!! My little Coton de Tulear is a puppy mill rescue also, he is a great little dog, no problems. If anyone is in the Toledo, Ohio area there is a great rescue called Indian Creek Sanctuary, they are a wonderful group of people that go all over trying to save the puppy mill dogs and really get beautiful dogs.

Aw, you guys are awesome!

I think this is an okay place to share the following. I knew President Elect Obama is looking at a shelter dog for his daughters, but I had no idea that he had participated in a campaign to stop puppy mills, although I don't know how much.
.

The dog he's holding is Baby.
.
She belongs to this lady who's made it her mission to get something done about puppy mills. There are a few brief scenes that could be uncomfortable for some folks, but for the most part it's so sweet to meet Baby and see what her momma is doing!

Thank you for posting this. I love this story! If anyone is looking to rescue, please do! Petfinder.com has some great animals on their site that need homes. I rescued my dog and 3 cats and they're all great, sweet and smart animals!
