Default dr's appt today

I have an appt this afternoon. Hopefully he can give me something to help with the pain.

We tried Elavil but had to stop because of the side effects. The pain in my legs has gotten pretty bad over the last few days and doesn't seem to be going away.

I have no idea what/if anything can help but I'm hoping there is an answer for me. Also, the daily headaches are starting to wear on me.

Everything else is ok though. So, there is something to be thankful for.

Any suggestions on what has helped others with pain would be helpful.

Thanks.

Is it pain from spacicity (sp?) in your legs?

I found that a heating pad sometimes does the trick. I use one that I can control how hot it gets and how long it's on so I don't overheat myself. I also found that when temps drop below freezing, it has a tendancy to get worse for me.

Sometimes getting more potassium can help a little. (sorry if I spelled that one wrong too, one of those days, lol) Bananas and yogurt are what I use.

Hope the doc can help you out and you feel better soon.

Sorry for your pain, kellijo.

Good luck at your Dr. appt. this afternoon. I hope you get something that really helps. Let us know what the doc says, okay?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what this pain is from. At first when he prescribed the Elavil I was mostly having burning kind of pain.

But, now it's more of a real deep muscle/bone kinda pain. Horrible at explaining, hope you understand.

I have tried heating pads and massaging the areas as best as I can but, doesn't help.

I have started eating more bananas. Was having probs with cramping in feet and hands and remembered that from my grandfather. He was such a smart man.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Well, just got home. The appt. went well. Everything pretty much the same. The brain mri looked good. Spinal lesions still the same and they are the ones giving me the most problems now.

He gave me a script for Soma for the pain. I'll fill that tomorrow. Anyone with any experience with that would love some words of wisdom to know what to expect.

It was good to hear though that the mri was stable first time for that. The rebif must be doing the trick for now.

I know that pain , and it is spasticity. A friend of mine described it as a "feeling like the meat is being pulled off the bones", which was a pretty good way to describe it. I describe it as a "cold to the bones ache" and have had it in my legs, forearms, and in my wrist when I had a claw hand for 5 yrs.

That pain stayed after my spinal lesion attack in 2003, and was something I suffered with daily for two years before I got on LDN. I agree (with whoever said) that heat can be helpful . . . but if you have burning at the same time, heat will probably not feel good at all. I don't even like blankets on my legs when they are on fire like that.

Before LDN, I was using an antidepressant for fatigue, and it seemed to help somewhat with spasticity too. Avoiding cold can be very helpful, and winter is the worst for me. Maybe once you climatize for the Fall season, things will level off.

Tell me more about this Soma drug! Please!

My neuro was quite unhappy about long term use of Clonazepam. I can't blame him of course. My GP is also not keen about it.

Oh yeah, Elavil (Amitriptyline) caused me dreadful side effects and little benefits.
