Default Can MS be prevented with a vaccine?

Headlines across our Australian newspapers today discuss an EBV vaccine that they hope will prevent Multiple Sclerosis in years to come.

We all know that a vaccine has been talked about for ages now, and whether or not one actually comes to fruition or not, remains to be seen. I did however think you might like to read what we are hearing and seeing here in Oz today.

Researchers from the University of Queensland yesterday confirmed a link between the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes glandular fever and is
carried by more than 90 per cent of the world's population, and multiple
sclerosis, saying the vaccine, developed to combat glandular fever,
could save thousands of lives.

I'm not sure what they mean when they say "could save thousands of lives".... maybe they could have phrased that a bit better to say something like...prevent hundreds of people being diagnosed with MS every year. JMHO.

Read the article here: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...770542455.html

or.... listen to the audio presentation here:

I have a gut feeling the answer for MS is going to come out of Australia, Koala.

I couldn't get the audio to play (having comp troubles, still), but I read the article. They've been talking about mono, etc. being at least one of the triggers for a long time now, but it's cool that they may be coming out with a vaccine for that.

Thanks for the posting.

Cherie

It sounds good, but I'm a sceptic! I know a lot of work is being done around the world on a vaccine, especially in Belgium, and the audio tells a bit about that.

Has anyone been able to listen to the audio presentation?

Cherie, if the link won't work for you, try this in your browser :

It is very interesting. The Media Player link wouldn't work, but the Real Player one did.
