Default TV these days

It seems like the quality of television is going down. I have many channels, and HBO,and they are showing back,to back programs, and paid programming, which are long commercials early in the morning. I've noticed this process slowly getting worse.

It seems like on the program guide, they don't give you a description of the show sometimes.

On the Sci-Fi channel, they have shown some comedies around Thanksgiving, instead of real Sci-Fiction.

We've already paid for the programming. Why do they have paid programming on top of what we've paid for?

Is this me,or do other people notice this? BF

I'm starting to really hate paying for TV. Unfortunately, I have to. I'm too far away from the transmitters to use "rabbit ears" or any other kind of antenna. I just pay for the absolute lowest tier of cable service.

I get local channels, and of course all the home shopping baloney. But I do get The Discovery Channel, which is good, and AMC, which can be good. It depends on what movie they're running.

Even the local channels seem to be fraught with a barrage of "infomercials". Anymore, it seems I use the TV as a white noise generator to occupy my mind.

Same here oldsteve. Is your name Steve? My name is Steve also.

I live way out in a rural area also. I live in the Boone docks,or the Po docks which they call it now I think. I to like the Discovery channel,History,Biography, and the Sci-Fi channel. HBO plays the same movies over, and over, and over. Sometimes they surprise me,so I've kept it. I might discontinue it if it keeps on going the way it's going now. BF

I agree with you completely. We have satellite, 100 & some-who-knows-how-many-stations, and nothing to watch. I stick with the history channels, Discovery, etc as well. Science used to be good, but seems like they show the same two shows most of the time now...

Yes, my name is Steve. Good to see another one. I don't live in the boondocks. Just far enough from a "big" city to get aerial reception. I live in a small city that's kind of like Mayberry, but on a bigger scale.

We've really cut down on the amount of TV we watch...it's such bad quality...and we haven't gone to a movie in almost 2 years! It's so expensive, and most of what's out is garbage. I'm starting to feel old...sound like my in laws did about 20 yrs. ago...

We have a list of shows we'll watch that we think are cool. House, NCIS, Bones, etc. Sometimes we can catch a flick on the pay channels, but sometimes you have a ton of channels and nothing to watch.

We don't like the reality or game shows at all. We've tried, but just not what we like to watch.

Of course the weird things have been watching some of the cable stations start doing things like 90 second infomercials instead of commercials. One of our stations does that, and it is so creepy.

we don't watch much tv. too much isn't suitable for kids. you never know what is going to show up. even on regular tv.

the kids really enjoy playing board games, cards, puzzles, baking or crafts.

they would like to play video or computer games more. we only allow them on weekends and limited amount of time.

Hi FinLady:

We seem to be watching the same shows. I watch House, NCIS, The Unit, Army Wives, I LOVE THE TUDORS (on showtime, I do hope they bring this back). Have you ever watched this program?

But what gets me is the sexual content that is now being shown on daytime soaps. It used to be implied. It no longer is. They are becoming blatant. I thought Grays Anatomy was bad enough when the two ladies were going at it. And I don't care if the person is gay or straight. But when I'm watching a good medical show, I don't want to see this kind of behavior. If I did want to see this kind of behavior, I'd tune into a porn channel. But I don't. I want to watch a HOUSE type show.

Well, all they do on Gray's Anatomy is jump each others bones.

What on earth ever happened to good quality tv. Without all the sex.

Now they are doing this on All My Children. Jeez.

Years ago, things were IMPLIED. I remember watching old movies and when two people walked to the bed, the scene changed and the camera went to the sky and showed the clouds. I remember this like it was yesterday. It was all implied.

Now....no more implying....THEY SHOW YOU EVERYTHING. And there are children watching. And there are childen doing stuff that childen have no business doing.

Makes me ill to see what tv programming has become.

Sorry to go off on a soapbox but if I see one more person going from one guy to another, I'll scream.

I know what you mean. They have slowly polluted the air waves.

I've been watching NCIS,and House. Then I'll watch the history channel,or a science program. I love the new information that they are showing about the Universe. It's absolutely fascinating.

They played a James Bond film on the Sci-Fi channel tonight. The Sci-Fi channel is going off topic. I don't care how they will justify it. I know better. Let me get off my soapbox. LOL BF
