Lucie Bruijn, Ph.D., science director and vice president of The ALS Association, is available to discuss initial findings from new research supported by The Association that has the potential to uncover genetic underpinnings of the most common form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. Finding genes that contribute to this fatal disease will provide new targets for drug therapy for the approximately 30,000 people with ALS in the United States.

The findings will be presented on Thursday, November 30 at the 17th International Symposium on ALS/MND in Yokohama, Japan. The Packard Center for ALS Research at John Hopkins, and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke also are supporting the study, conducted by the National Institute on Aging.
