Eight Years of Advocacy Made This Day Possible

PAN is pleased to share with you the following alert to the stem cell advocacy community from Amy Rick, CEO of PAN and President of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR). After reading the message from Amy Rick, please click here to take action to send your thank you to President Obama.

Dear Mr. President:

Thank you for lifting the prohibitions on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. I recognize that you have many urgent issues that demand your attention, and I am grateful that you acted to remove politics from science. Embryonic stem cell research holds so much promise for so many, and for years progress has been slower than it might have been. Now, thanks to your action, our best scientists can continue their important work in this area and fully pursue all opportunities to get us to new treatments and cures as quickly as possible. Your action gives hope to millions of Americans and I am grateful.

Read the PAN press statement here.

PAN Applauds President Obama's Commitment to Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Press release here

Excerpt from an email Amy Rick sent to PAN board and state and congressional coordinators (PAN volunteers)...next week will certainly be filled with a joyful atmosphere:

"I wanted to let you know what an amazing day today has been. I had the honor to be in the room when the President signed the executive order rescinding the Bush policy. The new executive order is everything that we had hoped it would be. It rescinds the Bush policy without “replacing” it with any new restrictions. Rather, it instructs NIH to issue ethical and appropriate guidelines within 120 days. We will continue to work with NIH and Capitol Hill as implementation moves forward."

The full text of the executive order can be found at http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Removing-Barriers-to-Responsible-Scient...

A Newsweek interview conducted this weekend about the order and CAMR can be found at http://www.newsweek.com/id/188454
