I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but there are people that haven't been on this website that long. Those on Lyrica....could they report if weight gain has been an issue.

Yup, but it was on Nuerontin too.
About 30 lbs - from a 20 yr avg... pre-meds, of 220-225.... to 250-255.
Weighed myself on Sun am and it was 248.7, sometimes its 254.5.
I fluctuate.

Five year ago, before my wonderful bride and I married, we both went on the South Beach Diet. Even though I was beginning to have problems with my feet, I wasn't on any medication yet! I lost 36 pounds in a little over 3 months. I kept the weight off for almost 2 years. I must confess, after my foot surgery and the ongoing pain, my exercise routine went south, along with my eating habits. I've gained back the weight I lost, and I found, the last time I tried the SBD (only for 2 weeks), I wasn't getting the fast drop in weight like the original time. So, this time, we're going to New York for my birthday, and we're back on the SBD. I would love to attribute my weight gain to just poor food choices and less physical activity. I'm suspecting that Lyrica might play a major role in my weight issues.

So weight gain from Lyrica basically comes from increased appetite? In other words, it does not automatically happen due to whats in the drug itself?

In my case, lyrica hasn't caused any weight gain. I am a tall woman, and my weight is 110 pounds it's been like this before I started lyrica and that was 6 months ago, 150 mg a day.

Well, I took 150 mg lyrica per day for one year and im like a pig now.... it seems hard to get rid of the weight I gained.... darn it... Personally dont think the weight gain is only due to increased appettite.... but I dont know.

Aw ! hopefully my diet will help.....

In my case (and quite a few others, too)
it has been carb cravings (as well as being a chocoholic ).
In some, edema (water retention) has been the culprit.
I haven't heard of any other explanation for the gains.
I don't think it is chemically induced by the med itself
that causes weight gain, just appetite increase for carbohydrates
and, water retention in others.
It is listed as a s/e on the literature, tho.

I took Lyrica for four months, worked great for me, but I switched back to neurontin after a 22 lb. weight gain. I didn't want to deal with dieting along with everything else, I've never dropped the weight by the way. Not a horrible thing, I'm 5'5 and weighed 115 all my life, but it settled like an intertube around my stomach. I work out in my spa everyday but the tube is still hanging in there

Well, it must be due to edema in many cases.... in my case, I dont think so, as it is taking me TONS to get this weight off... darn lyrica ! lol (nah, it helped me a lot...)

Well, I've been on phase 1 of South Beach for 3 days, and I've dropped 10 pounds! I think it is mostly water. But, that is okay. I lost 36 pounds the last time I was on the diet. I will stick to it this time.
