If we hit 101 degrees, it's a new all-time record (over 150 years of record keeping). Sea-Tac airport reported 88 at 9:00 a.m.

Is currently 82 in my western-exposure, no AC condo (not usually available in this part of the country) - will get full brunt of sun from noon until it sets at 9:00 p.m. Blinds closed; windows with screens open for breeze; 2 fans going.

Fridge full of diet coke; freezer full of ice. Dog cooling on the ground level entry way tile; cat under the bed; water bowls nearby.

Paramedics already visited the elderly gentleman across the street for heat complications this morning.

This is not why I live in Seattle - A true Northwesterner, I complain about anything over 75 degrees, under 40, and anything longer than about 10 days without rain. Hot spell expected to continue through the weekend; hope I last that long! 4

I'm west of Portland OR and we are cooking too.
Supposedly one more day of 100s+ after today.
I'm near the foothills of the coast range so a bit cooler than Portland temps and we have big fir trees to the west that help in the late afternoon /evening.

the blinky in my siggy shows temps nearby.

Power company here reports record breaking usages for the last few days also.

I do love Oregon - lots of great times at Yachats on the coast, rafting the Rogue River, and spending time in Portland ..... always unnerving when someone approaches to pump my gas!

Sorry to thread jack- I wondered why a Facebook friend's status kept going on about the hot weather...now I know! Clearly, I need to watch more news.

I also wanted to say I'm jealous- to live on the West Coast is my dream. I love these "remember when..." moments unique to where we each live. Savor every bit of it

WAY too hot! the poor landscapers for our condo complex are outside spreading beauty bark - back breaking work, blowing red dust, noisy backhoes. Ouch!

Temperatures soared into three digits around Western Washington early this afternoon, hitting a record 102 degrees at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport between 2 and 3 p.m.

Other Weather Service readings included 102 in Kenmore and Puyallup, 101 in Bellevue and Seattle's University District and 100 degrees in Renton and Lake Forest Park.

Higher temperatures as the day goes on are possible, with summertime highs often hit between 4 and 6 p.m.

The 102-degree mark at Sea-Tac, where the city's official readings are taken, topped the overall record of 100 set on July 16, 1941 and matched on July 20, 1994. Seattle's record for July 29 had been 95, set in 1971.

I think my blinky might not be accurate right now...

The temps on it come from personal weather stations and depending on how and where the people placed them ... could affect the readings.

I got it from this website - it has a Google type map with the personal weather stations located on it - you can grab it and drag to other locations as well as zoom in/out.

Hi Carey,

I think there is nothing more stressful for a Parkinson's patient than to become overheated. Looks like we got out of town just in time. Minnesota may get cold in winter and hot in summer, but our homes are well insulated, air conditioned, and heated.

Take care. Cool baths and many naps should get you through. Laura Dean lives in your area too. Hope she is OK.
