Default GE, Brain Imaging and Diagnosing Parkinson’s Disease

GE, Brain Imaging and Diagnosing Parkinson’s Disease

http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2009/08/...ase/tab/print/

Parkinson’s disease, like Alzheimer’s and some other progressive brain diseases, is difficult to diagnose because there’s no blood or lab test to determine who has it.

Now, GE is hoping the FDA will approve its chemical for brain imaging, which the company says may help docs rule out the possibility that a patient has Parkinson’s. But the results still won’t provide a definitive diagnosis.

This is good news for future patients, and hopefully will allow them to get the treatment early rather than what we went through with the long drawn out testing and waiting that we went through.

[SKEPTIC ON]
The FDA is questioning the diagnosis system because big pharma no longer has 100% control over PD. At this point in time, they make gazilllion so of dollars on the diagnosis and treatment of such conditions. If someon comes a long with a quick and easy route, they lose out on the payola.

I trust the FDA as far as I can throw big pharma and the rest of the paid off government officals left over from the Decade of the Shrub.
