Red face bobby, you were right. Wet cat food is better than dry.

Feeding Your Cat: Know the Basics of Feline Nutrition :: healthy cat diet, making cat food, litter box, cat food, cat nutrition, cat urinary tract health

This is a link to everything you want to know about cats diet and their needs. I will be showing this to jeff.
Our 2 cats died early, one due to oral cancer and the other from kidney disease.
It is a long article and there is a short page link at the beginning. I started reading the long version and it is very long and I have to leave so I will go back to it later tonight.

WOW, that is long! Even the short version is long! I'm sorry I couldn't read it.

The only thing I know is that when I was young, my mother fed our cats wet food and the litter box smell was ungodly, so I said I would never do it…

My husband has picked up some fancy brand cans a few times and the results were the same. Rocky threw up after eating it once, and it was so gross I almost threw up myself.
My husband's not the one who has to clean the boxes, or the puke, so I put my foot down, and it's banned from the house.

My much-loved cat Susie died a few days ago as a 20+ y.o. Her mate Spike died last year as a 19+ y.o.

I fed them both on dry food which I got from the vet (not cheap but probably more reliable than the el cheapo stuff from a supermarket), combined with fresh chicken, fish and beef.

Yes, usually dry food for breakfast and meat for dinner.

We give our kitties and dog wet food as a treat. We try once a week.

But I haven't in a while.

Kiwi, I'm sorry to hear about Susie

I buy a mid-priced cat food (about $20 a bag) for sensitive systems and the first ingredients are chicken and turkey.

I give Rocky and Buddy people food every now and then even though I know I shouldn't. They will eat just about anything. Dottie won't even eat cat treats, but she'll eat whatever cat food I put in the bowl though.

Thank you OhKay .

I don't know how old Rocky and Buddy are but maybe one thing to think about is to give them both dry food which they need to crunch rather than swallowing whole.

Crunching is good for their teeth - it helps to get rid of tartar on them.
