Default Airbag Injuries to Teeth. Partials soon

In Jan I had a terrible accident. Many injuries and almost died and all that. It took many months of rehab to walk and everyone thought I was a miracle. However, the injuries to my face from the airbag only got worse. I have a concussion and cannot recall faces or find my way around anymore.

My eyes are messed up, BUT the one injury that caused me the most stress in the ones to my teeth. Three on top, front centre and two on bottom centre are dying. This will be horrific for me toget them extracted.
I see two holistic dentists. The one said root canal would be less trauma but I know all about RC s and cannot go that way.
The other said implants but I as a child I was disabled for a long time from metal in mouth. Clifford testing says no Titanium but ceramic is iffy.
The ony other choice is a partial, removable made of no metal.
The trauma of this has already left me with one suicide attempt. Thinking I was spared f or a reason and the PSYCH! Now you are gonna lose all your seen teeth!
I know there is no other solution so I am just looking for people who have had partial after trauma.
Did you end up losing all your other teeth? Because of drift and so forth....Did you adjust? How long?
I am beside myself.
These were perfect teeth, strong, healthy and now they are being rejected by my body. I am so sad.

I don't like root canals either, but my husband has many, which saved his teeth and they are decades old. I am considering what to do with a failing molar right now. It is so upsetting.

The technology for implants is changing. Bicon implants are great for molars, but not front teeth. The ceramics are not as strong as as the metal versions.

My mother died at 93 with very nice teeth and a partial plate that she first got in her forties, so a partial is not a bad option, but you have to put it in every day.

Hi okrad,

Very sorry to hear about your severe accident, how frightening and life changing that experience has been for you! However, the positive news is that you are walking!!

Regarding your facial and dental issues. I am going to be straight forward with you and offer you information that may scare you a bit but it's important that you understand the magnitude of your dental situation so that you can discuss from an informative perspective the steps you need to take with your dentists. Keep in mind that your decision will not just affect your dental health it will impact your systemic (whole body) health as well.

I am going to re post some of your thread and reply to you in bold type. It's just easier to follow that way.

<< But the one injury that caused me the most stress in the ones to my teeth. Three on top, front centre and two on bottom centre are dying. This will be horrific for me toget them extracted.>>

IN THE ACCIDENT, DID YOU SUFFER A FRACTURED JAW OR WAS THE JAW BONE IN YOUR UPPER AND LOWER FRONT AREAS OF YOUR MOUTH BROKEN OR FRACTURED? IF SO, HOW IS THE HEALING OF THAT GOING?

IF THOSE TEETH ARE DYING THEN THAT MEANS THAT THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT ON THOSE AREAS OF YOUR MOUTH HAS RESULTED IN IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO AT LEAST THOSE TEETH THAT YOU MENTION.

WHEN AN INJURY OCCURS TO THE TEETH, THE PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT THAT ANCHORS THE TEETH IN THE BONE BECOMES SEPARATED OR SHREDDED AND VERY INFLAMED WHICH CAN CONTRIBUTE TO LOOSENING OF THE TEETH. AT THE SAME TIME THE NERVES INSIDE OF THE TEETH AS WELL AS THOSE NERVES SURROUNDING THE TEETH BECOME TRAUMATIZED.

IF THE TRAUMA TO THE LIGAMENTS AND NERVES ARE SEVERE, THE LIGAMENT WILL NOT HEAL AND THE NERVES WILL MOST OFTEN DIE. BOTH OF WHICH LEADS TO IRREVERSIBLE INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION DOES NOT CONFINE ITSELF TO JUST THOSE TRAUMATIZED TEETH BECAUSE ALL TEETH SHARE THE SAME BLOOD VESSELS AND NERVE BUNDLES. THIS MEANS THAT THE INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION WILL SPREAD BEYOND THOSE TEETH INTO THE ADJACENT TEETH AND INTO THE BLOOD STREAM. THE ONLY WAY TO ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE INFECTION IS TO REMOVE THE SOURCE OF THE INFECTION WHICH IS TO REMOVE THE NON VITAL, INFECTED TEETH ALONG WITH THE INFLAMED PERIODONTAL LIGAMENTS.

THE LONGER THE TEETH ARE PRESENT IN THIS CONDITION THE MORE WIDESPREAD THE PROBLEMS WILL BECOME. IF CAUGHT EARLY ENOUGH AND IF THE ORAL SURGERY TO REMOVE THEM AND THE AFFECTED BONE AND LIGAMENT IS VERY THOROUGH, THEN THE OVERALL BONE LOSS WILL BE LESS THAN IF YOU WAITED AND THE INFECTION SPREAD.

<<I see two holistic dentists. The one said root canal would be less trauma but I know all about RC s and cannot go that way.>>

YOUR DENTIST IS TRYING TO PROCRASTINATE ON THE INEVITABLE BECAUSE HE KNOWS HOW EMOTIONALLY DIFFICULT IT IS FOR YOU TO REMOVE THOSE TEETH. HOWEVER, HE NEEDS TO ALSO INFORM YOU THAT THE RC'S WILL NOT BE VERY EFFECTIVE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME, ESPECIALLY DUE TO THE INTENSITY OF THE TRAUMA THAT OCCURRED. HE ALSO NEEDS TO INFORM YOU THAT THE RC'S CANNOT REVERSE THE DAMAGE THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THE PERIODONTAL LIGAMENTS. THE INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION WILL PROGRESS AND UNFORTUNATELY EXTRACTION OF THOSE TEETH IS INEVITABLE .... I'M SO SORRY :/

<<The other said implants but I as a child I was disabled for a long time from metal in mouth. Clifford testing says no Titanium but ceramic is iffy.>>

YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS DUE TO YOUR PHYSICAL AND SYSTEMIC HEALTH. IDEALLY THE PATIENT SHOULD HAVE A VERY HEALTHY MOUTH, NON INJURED JAW BONE, NO DENTAL INFECTION AND SHOULD BE REASONABLY HEALTHY IN EVERY OTHER WAY. YOU HAVE SUFFERED SO MUCH ALREADY THAT YOUR BODY IS STILL GOIJNG THROUGH TRAUMA WHICH ALTERS EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODY. UNDERTAKING DENTAL IMPLANTS, WHICH ARE FOREIGN BODIES, MAY NOT BE WISE TO PUT YOUR SYSTEMIC HEALTH THROUGH.

BEING REACTIVE TO TITANIUM AND POSSIBLY ZIRCONIUM KIND OF RULES OUT DENTAL IMPLANTS AS IMPLANTS ARE EITHER SOME FORM OF METAL OR CERAMIC WITH METAL.

<<The ony other choice is a partial, removable made of no metal.>>

A REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE WHEN MADE WELL, CAN BE A SUPER TEETH REPLACEMENT OPTION. SOME PEOPLE SWEAR THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THEY ARE WEARING IT. EVERY SITUATION IS A BIT DIFFERENT AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOUR PARTICULAR OUTCOME. A NOTE ABOUT THESE PARTIALS ... IT IS EASIER TO GET A GOOD FIT WHEN THE BONE IS HEALTHY AND NOT DETERIORATED FROM INFECTION. SO IF THIS WAS THE WAY YOU WANTED TO PROCEED, THEN A SOONER THAN LATER APPROACH WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS IN THAT RESPECT.

<<The trauma of this has already left me with one suicide attempt. Thinking I was spared f or a reason and the PSYCH! Now you are gonna lose all your seen teeth!>>

KNOWING THAT BREAKS MY HEART, LITERALLY. YOUR LIFE IS SO IMPORTANT AND HAS BEEN SPARED AND YOU ARE A MIRACLE!! NOT EVERYONE GETS TO BE SO SPECIAL

I AM NOT GOING TO MAKE LIGHT OF YOUR DENTAL SITUATION AS I CAN TRULY UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF IT AND THE LOSS THAT YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING YOUR FRONT TEETH EXTRACTED. HOWEVER, IF YOU THINK BACK ON WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY ENDURED AND HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME IN SPITE OF THE ODDS AGAINST YOU ....THE DENTAL PART OF IT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WILL ADJUST TO EASIER AND FASTER.

PARTIAL DENTURES CAN LOOK VERY NATURAL AND ACTUALLY OPEN UP A PERSONS SMILE MORE SO THAN IT WAS BEFORE. YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER CONSULTING WITH A PROSTHODONTIST AS THIS IS A DENTIST WHO SPECIALIZES IN THE REPLACEMENT OF TEETH AND THEY ARE PICKY ABOUT THE ESTHETICS AND FIT OF THE DENTURES A BIT MORE SO THAN GENERAL DENTISTS.

<<I know there is no other solution so I am just looking for people who have had partial after trauma. >>

EVERY PERSON'S SITUATION IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT AS THERE IS NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL WHEN IT COMES TO EXTRACTING TEETH AND WEARING PARTIAL DENTURES. EACH PERSON HAS THEIR OWN UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES AND EACH PERSON ALSO HAS THEIR OWN TOLERANCE OR PATIENCE TOWARD THINGS TOO. I KNOW 1000'S OF DENTAL PATIENTS WHO WEAR PARTIAL DENTURES AND MOST OF THEM DO REALLY WELL AND ARE HAPPY WITH THE END RESULT. AS A SIDE NOTE .... THOSE WHO GO INTO THIS WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE SEEM TO BE THE ONES WHO DO THE BEST.

BELIEVE ME YOU ARE NOT DOING YOURSELF ANY FAVORS IF YOU RELY ON ANOTHER PERSONS EXPERIENCE BECAUSE THE CASES ARE SO VERY DIFFERENT.

<<Did you end up losing all your other teeth? Because of drift and so forth....Did you adjust? How long? >>

THE ONLY TIME YOU WILL LOSE ALL OF YOUR TEETH IS IF THEY ARE NOT HEALTHY TO BEGIN WITH. A PARTIAL DENTURE THAT FITS AND FUNCTIONS WELL IS NOT GOING TO DISTURB HEALTHY TEETH.

DRIFTING OF TEETH OCCURS FOR MANY REASONS. SOME OF THEM ARE...
** POOR FITTING RESTORATIONS OR PARTIALS
** PERIODONTAL DISEASE
** POOR ORAL HYGIENE
** MISALIGNED BITE SOMETIMES DUE TO OPEN SPACES OF EXTRACTED TEETH THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED WITH ANYTHING.

EVERY CASE IS DIFFERENT WHICH MEANS EVERY PERSON IS GOING TO RESPOND A BIT DIFFERENT AND THERE IS NO SET TIME FRAME AS TO HOW LONG IT TAKES SOMEONE TO ADJUST TO THEIR DENTAL WORK.

<<I am beside myself. >>

I AM SO VERY SORRY. I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU THE EXACT INFORMATION THAT YOU THINK YOU NEED TO MOVE FORWARD, BUT YOUR CASE IS UNIQUE TO YOU. THE ONE THING THAT I WILL EMPHASIZE TO YOU IS TO THINK FROM A POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE ENDURED AND HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME. YOU HAVE TO BE STRONG TO HAVE GOTTEN TO THIS POINT AND YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS TOO.

<<These were perfect teeth, strong, healthy and now they are being rejected by my body. I am so sad.>>

YOUR BODY IS REJECTING THEM BECAUSE YOUR BODY KNOWS WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH AND IT KNOWS THAT THESE DEAD TEETH CAN MAKE YOU VERY ILL. IN THAT SENSE YOUR BODY IS NOT FAILING YOU, IT IS STILL PROTECTING YOU.

I HOPE YOU DO NOT FIND THIS INFORMATION TOO SHOCKING FOR TOO LONG AND INSTEAD LET IT EMPOWER YOU TO MOVE FORWARD, JUST AS YOU HAVE BEEN DOING ALL OF THESE MONTHS WITH EVERYTHING ELSE.

God Bless and please continue to have faith in yourself and faith in that which has brought you this far.
