Speaking of Cox 2 inhibitor, I found an herbal called Pain RX and here is the company link and if you search in products for Pain RX, it's a good explanation of this product. I find it helps and take it in between ibuprofen...of course I'd love not to take these but I could not function otherwise. I found Pain RX about 3 yrs ago as I found myself dealing with more pain after hip job.

I remember the Vioxx issue and at the time I was taking care of a little child and his father was trying it out....it was gone off the market pretty quickly as I recall. I thought about Celebrex but "feared" it and it was so expensive I could not afford it anyway....good thing I suppose.

Back in the 80's I ended up in the ER with a stomach ulcer from an old class anti inflammatory drug....that was the beginning of my lessons. This old drug had my back feeling goooooood, but gave me an ulcer.

The management of chronic inflammatory pain becomes very difficult.
Anti-inflammatory agent aren't benign.

I took Vioxx for a brief period and found it very helpful. Glad it was taken off the market, all things considered. Celebrex remains available. (I am allergic to it.)

I have since backed off the NSAIDs, but pay a very high price in excruciating pain. Seriously. I take very short-term naproxen sodium... OTC doses at 3 days at a time at the most. Yet, still in agony. I can have stronger NSAIDS, but I get into problems with them. (GI and otherwise.)

I try to control most pain via morphine and hydromorphone. I have not increased my dose in 13 years. I have lowered my dose.

SSRIs have been helpful with pain. Yet, they also have some side-effects I do not need. (mrsD has mentioned the depletion of dopamine in people with PN. I have PN.)

Overall, my pain management is inadequate.
Yet, I'm in a quandary about exactly what to do about it.
I am researching more about TENS, D-Wave, and IF types of approaches.

Dave, I understand at least some of the pain. It becomes overwhelming and life gets very, very difficult... too difficult... torture at times.

I am many years into pain now and need to find viable options beyond my current treatment plan.

I will be seeing my medical specialists soon and I hope they have ideas beyond meds. Sensorimotor axonal polyneuropathy, Psoriatic Arthritis, Migraine, Myotonia, Fibromyalgia -- just to name a few.

Bringing this subject up again. I live in plenty of pain but manage it without a lot of drugs and know the MSM powder thru the day and Pain RX herbal helps me to take less pain meds. Some of us have higher pain thresholds and some of us just learn to live with some pain. I never thought I'd get to this major pain condition but I have. And I know for me, it's all so worse since hip surgery.
