Default Pros and Cons of DBS

Hello My name is Jon, I suffer from cervical dystonia and essential tremor. My Neurologist and I had it under control till the beginning of this year when the cervical dystonia began acting up and my head start tremoring.

We have had it under control with BOTOX injections and medication for well over 4 years. It is not super bad but bad enough to ruin my days, I wanted to know anyones experience with the getting operation.

How long was the procedure?
How bad is the tremor afterwards? is it not existent?
Is there any congnitive side effects?
Will the electrode have to be replaced eventually?

Thanks

Jon

Hi Jon,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I just wanted to welcome you and let you know that you can find other posts about DBS if you use the

Forum Search Feature

It does have limitations though so using DBS will not work. You would only be able to find "deep brain stimulation". Most of those will be in the Parkinson's Disease Forum.

all the best.

Default DBS for my MS tremors?

I have SPMS and have developed essential tremors and my Neurologist has suggested I try the DBS surgery. I have been through the screening process but wonder anyone has tried DBS to help with this? I am scared to death to put myself through this if it's not gonna help. Any advise? Karen

Hello Karen,

Welcome to NeuroTalk

You could also ask over on the

Multiple Sclerosis Forum

As mentioned above, most of the posts regarding DBS will be on the

Parkinson's Disease Forum

You can find past posts by using the forum search feature (link below).

DBS will not work as a keyword though as it is only 3 letters long. The search term needs to be at least 4, so using Deep Brain Stimulation as the keyword will work better.

All the best to you with your decision.

Karen, Did you find some DBS posts & threads?

Here is a recent DBS thread on the PD forum, and below on that same page is a list of similar threads-
