Default Hi:)

Hello! I am a Christian from Texas and I am here looking for support for my mom. She is 49 and has had diabetes for over 13 years...probably closer to 15 years or more. She has had about the same BS for that time period and praise God, did not have hardly any side effects. She has tried insulin and medication, just because the doctors wanted her numbers lower, but it only made her have several side effects and did not bring down her numbers. She prayed and stopped taking any meds or insulin for years and lost weight and felt better than when she was on them. In 2014, she had a bladder problem and went to the doctor for some antibiotics. They hurt her Achilles heel, but God healed her even without the medicine. While she was there, the doctors put her on an insulin pump, which made her swell so bad she could not walk. They then put her on the Novolog 70/30 pen and it work a little for a few days. Then it stopped working the same as the others. We were not told that we needed to shake up the mixture and my mom used a pen that was cloudy with particles in it. At the peak of when it works..3hrs....she started having nerve pain. From that day on, she has had nerve pain randomly throughout her body. It has gotten worse and she cannot stand on a non carpet surface, she cannot sit with her legs down, she cannot drive without pain, parts of her legs and knees are numb. She cannot have a sheet hardly touch her, she cannot hardly walk sometimes, she now has a yeast infection throughout her body (she is taking caprylic acid for it) and fibroid tumors (known since 2014). It hurts for her to lay down sometimes, but more so standing too long or especially, sitting. The pressure in the air makes it worse as well. Food does not seem to matter, because she can eat just salad (veggies) and it hurts the same as a hamburger. If she messages the nerve in her bottom, it helps take the edge off. No Dr. will believe that it was the pen that did it. I have done research and found that it is a lesser known symptom, of that exact brand of pen even. We know God alone can heal her! We will continue to pray and seek The Great Physician! Thanks for having me and God bless!

Hi Christian4ever

Welcome to NeuroTalk - I hope that you find the community as knowledgeable and supportive as I have.

I am sorry to read about your mother. From what you have written I guess that she has been diagnosed with Type 2 (not Type 1) diabetes because people with Type 1 diabetes need regular (usually daily) doses of insulin to stay alive. Apart from that you wrote "She [...] stopped taking any [...] insulin for years" - somebody with Type 1 diabetes would die if they did not take insulin regularly, on a time-scale much less than years.

You could encourage your mother to find a health professional with specialist knowledge of Type 2 diabetes. A specialist will be able to work with her and discuss treatment/management options (there are many possibilities).

As far as her nerve pain is concerned, this might be peripheral neuropathy which has many possible causes.

It might help if you posted in the NeuroTalk peripheral neuropathy forum about this. There are many active members there who should be able to offer you suggestions and support.

All the best.

Thank you for the reply! Yes she had type 1 and has seen a few diabetes specialists. They are the ones who made her feel so bad and gave her the insulin pens that caused her nerve pain. We were thinking it probably stemmed from what we learned is called, treatment induced neuropathy which led to the peripheral neuropathy. Thank you for the info on the forum! I will do that. Pray you have a great day and may God bless<><
