I'm 5months post now with Post concussion syndrome and post traumatic vision syndrome and my mother in law(yes,my mother in law) is encouraging me to have a QSPECT scan by cerescan. Has any one on Neurotalk worked with cerescan to have QSPECT scan? How was the experience. The website is cerescan.com.

I hope this make sense, I tend to miss words due to my vision syndrome and rereading hurts and causes brain fatigue because I'm CONCUSSED!

First off. Most do not recognize the PTVS acronym. It may help to spell it out. Many have vestibular issues but I have never seen anybody else use that term. When people see a confusing term, they tend to be less responsive. I had to look it up again. Yeah, my memory is lousy....Maybe I'm brain damaged...

I looked into QSPECT. It looks very interesting but it appears to still be very new with only a few thousand scans done to build a reference database. Many of these imaging systems are research oriented. They help researchers understand the brain but usually do little to help with treatment. That is likely the case with QSPECT. It appears to be good at identifying concussions so the patient and care providers are not caught in the, "Is this a physical injury or is it a psychological disturbance ?"issue. Many try to treat PCS as the later.

Cerescan does not offer anything more than performing and reading the scans. They look to be focused on providing diagnostics to be used in brain injury law suits. I'd like to see some examples of treatment protocols used after identifying an injury.

It looks expensive and likely beyond the 'medical necessity' standard to get an insurance company to pay for it.

It looks to be a software addition to existing SPECT systems. Only 7 clinics appear to be doing the scans, not near NH. New technologies tend to take a while to get accepted because clinics may fear be connected to an as of yet, unproven protocol.

Personally, I think it is not quite ready for prime time. The qEEG they offer has much wider acceptance as a tool to understand brain dysfunction. But, there are plenty of clinics that do qEEGs. Again, they have limited value at establishing treatment except in a few specific situations.

You should check out getting a SWAN MRI. It can pinpoint microbleeds if you have any. Dr Robert Cantu in Concord Mass uses them. He is an expert in concussions.

Insurance will be more likely to pay for one. It is just a GE software upgrade to a GE 3T MRI system.

I saw Dr. Cantu and had neuro endocrine testing. From a concussed stand point not impressed. Loud and bright awaiting room. They were more interested in testing me for Alzheimer's dx for their study. Since start of my concussion doctors haven't impressed me only the therapists and behavioral optomatrist. A therapist picked up on my post traumatic vision syndrome not the 2 "concussion specialist" I saw before her.

Thanks for looking into this for me. Have you watched any of Dr. Amen's videos on TED Talk? I just feel it's time to try something different. I feel the current medical system just wants to push medications, which in my case made me a "zombie" and I learned my lesson. At that time I just wanted to feel better and had severe brain fatigue which impaired my judgement. Now my wife and I know better when we go to these appointments.

Many concussion specialists are trained with a few weekend seminars by the ImPACT people. They are in response tyo many schools that require a 'specialist' clear the player before they can return to play.
