Default questions about family?

So my husband had the TBI and its been a journey I have made him do things more and more but lately he functions really quite well we have been very lucky. He is even going back to school to relearn all that was lost in the brain damage. His rehab and him have been the reason why he improved the way he did.

I have been getting frustrated at family members that are not understanding of what his condition is. Any tips on how to show them he needs accommodations with out victimizing him in their eyes.

They have not gone out of their way to learn about what a TBI is but rely on me to tell them what it is and does expect them to just pull themselves together.
Do any of you feel like its a little apart of your identity now? Do any of you guys feel like you need to shield them from others? That you explain over and over they can not do somethings that they used to? As a side note... They will not watch the you tube movie either.
