I'd have to look up how many years it's been (~10 I think) but my doc advised against surgery, and told me that in time, the body does heal itself. I think this has happened, but with DDD, it goes both ways; some things have gotten better, while others have gotten worse. Last time I saw him, he suggested getting updated imaging to see where I am/what's going on. I just haven't gotten around to it.
