So sorry to hear of all you are going through.

I agree that there should be no issues as far as you getting your own copy of your file. That's your medical information and you can and should have access to it and be able to see it for yourself.

As for copies...well...depending on the size of your file I can see why they would want you to pay for copies. Of course...if they could get you a digital copy then that would be best and wouldn't cost anything...but not all offices would be equipped for that sort of thing. The doctor I saw for most of my life didn't have typed up notes of any kind so when I switched doctors and when my lawyer needed copies of my medical files from him it was quite an ordeal to read through any of it.
