Heart things to consider and to discuss with a psychiatrist

Dear Patriotising,

I hope that you come back soon and check in with us.

I have some questions for you to consider:

-----------------------
  1. Have you ever done any of the following during a "bright" spell?

    • taken on projects which were unrealistic?
    • thought you could do things or learn to do things that go beyond human capacity (eg: fly)?
    • behaved in ways that are socially unacceptable?
    • behaved in ways that endangered you/others, due to feelings of excessive power or unrestrainable impulse?
    • done things you'd normally consider unethical?
    • made excessive purchases, rash investments, life changes, or similar?

  2. If so, to what degree were you aware, during the episode (as opposed to after), that your behavior was "off"?

  3. After a "bright" spell, do you ever find yourself feeling any of the following, as a result of your behaviors:

    • regretful/remorseful,
    • guilty,
    • ridiculous,
    • confused/disoriented

  4. How long do your "bright" spells usually last?

-----------------

You do not need to post the answers here. If you do wish to share (or have questions), that's fine too, and we can discuss things together. Don't feel pressured. however.

I mostly think it would be good to mention any of these that apply to the psychiatrist you see. I'd speak by examples. This will aid a possible diagnosis as bipolar, and even more specifically, as type I or type II.

It is also important to let the doctor know which problems you've encountered solely while taking Prozac (or other drugs) and which, while unmedicated.

Hope to see you back soon.
