Hmmm... Well, there are all kinds of pain and all kinds of noise/sound. Both can stimulate the central nervous system; both can cause/increase stress.

Noise affects me most severely when I have a migraine -- that's fairly common. Like Mark says, at times when pain is higher, stress is also higher, so it shouldn't be surprising that anything that can contribute to stress may also contribute to pain.

I can think of a number of ways of attenuating sound, from meditation to earplugs/earphones all the way up to sound deadening insulation and/or window inserts.
