Two things come to mind.
First of all, don't laugh but a bar of soap at the foot of the bed between the sheets.
Secondly for those cramps that won't go away, rather than walk, put pressure on your foot ( the toes actually) like you are trying to bring the toes towards the knees. It takes A LOT of pressure, but hold it in that position with your leg straight. I usually lean against the counter top to do this, or even the wall. Stay in this position for a while after the cramp actually goes away. If you are unable to do this because you can't stand, then sit up and pull your toes towards your knees with your hands.
I get horrible spasms and cramps in my legs that leave the muscles very sore in the morning. The stretching is the only thing that helps.
