I found this observation interesting (same article, last paragraph):

I wonder what sorts of results would have emerged if the same or different groups had done several distinct tests, centered around different themes... socio-economic status, nurturing of others, body-image, bread-winning ability for instance, physical strength.

Doing such tests in parallel might flush out differences caused by social conditioning. It might be quite difficult, though, to construct similar tests in such a way as to isolate the desired themes.
